hello,
i'm just about to start going into business and i'm wondering whether i'm alright to put remedial massage on my adverts - i've done the ITEC sports massage and that covers general injuries, but other exam boards / courses distinguish between sports massage and remedial massage...
also, the 'embody' organisation wont insure to practice remedial massage unless you have a specific qualification with that name
can anyone shed any light on the differences between remedial and sports massage, and whether its worth completing a seperate remedial massage course?

RE: remedial massage definition?
Hi,
remedial massage generally covers techniques such as Soft Tissue Release, Soft Tissue Mobilisations, Muscle Energy Techniques as standard. These offer more options as a therapist to be able to treat soft tissue injuries.
Embody are correct not to insure for this unless a training course has been undertaken, as it is an individual therapy in its own right.
RE: remedial massage definition?
if you are qualified in just one type of massage i would say it would be incorrect to use remedial unless of course it was a remedial massage course!
I sometimes use the words remedial but have the usual massage, met, nmt, str, deep tissue etc all in there own right on top, I also have medium to high risk insurance, most massage insurance is low risk as they dont expect you to be doing str or joint manipulations etc so its worth checking that out.

RE: remedial massage definition?
thanks for that!
i think i'll ask the college or examining board, cos they have met, nmt etc in the course, but they might be able to advise what kind of insurance i'm allowed...
when i find out i'll post it on the forum in case anyone's interested
