Hi everyone
Has anyone done the Diploma in Body Massage (remedial Massage Route) If so what is it like, what does it entail?
My local college starts running this course shortly but it for 30 weeks and I don't want to enroll in something that long, if it is not going to be interesting.

RE: Remedial Massage
The best idea Angel would be to find someone who does Remedial Massage and go and experience one first hand!
Good luck

Why ever not....its great, it took me a while actually but now I will actually go and enjoy one, as therapists we need to look after our tools which is our body!

RE: Remedial Massage
Hi Tigerbee
You not prying sweetie, I just feel a very self conscious about my body at the mo....lots of fat, cellulite etc. ( work on others that are larger than me and have no worries, but I just need to pluck some confidense) I have started an exercise regime though, so hopefully I might eventually get the confidence to try a massage out.

RE: Remedial Massage
angel, i feel exactly the same. whilst learning massage i felt so embarrased being on the couch. there was 1 larger woman in the class but i was next, all the rest were skinny little things!!! trouble is i think it will be near on impossible to do a couse where u wont get massaged yourself, as you have to swap with other students to practice. and to be honest once u get used to the class its not so bad.
good luck in finding a course, i really want to do a remedial course too, but i hv just enrolled on an OU environmental degree so that is going to take up my time for a while!
RE: Remedial Massage
Hi Angel - Depends on how good your supplier is. Remedial massage can be part of sports massage and is much harder (physically) than other therapies such as holistic massage, which is quite gentle. It is usually given when someone has an injury or muscle overuse etc, so can be quite site-specific. It can also be given to athletes pre and post events (ie, doesn't have to be just for injuries.) Or someone who just wants a good old muscle workout can have one done!
Angel, you probably already know all this, so I'm sorry if I've carried on too long. But two really good providers of remedial massage are the Active Health Group [link= http://www.activehealthgroup.com ]Active Health Group[/link], who incorporate this course as part of their sports therapy diploma, or you can do it separately, and the LSSM who do it as part of their sports massage course. I've also heard there's a good one available in Scotland.
I would love to do the course and so have done lots of research on it, but can't find a provider I'm happy with as unfortunately Active Health Group are based in Bradford and I'm in London and their courses are also very expensive.
All the best with yours if you decide to go ahead and I'd love to hear how you get on!
RE: Remedial Massage
Hi SereneSal
Are you sure that Active Health Group is out of the question? I've just started their 10 month course. We do 1 weekend a month. People came from all over on the first weekend, the furthest from Plymouth, also someone from London. They stayed at the university which was cheap - I think about £15 for the weekend.
Good luck
Sonia
RE: Remedial Massage
Hi Sonia - pleased to finally meet someone who's doing a course at Active Health Group! Please do let me know how you go with it. Hopefully I'll be able to save up enough pennies to start the course at the end of the year. (I think they have one starting in Oct/Nov.)
