Hi all,
A client of mine has a colleague who is 5 months pregnant and has just been signed off work with sever oedema (her feet have gone from a size 2 to a size 5) and was asking whether massage would help.
I have asked her to check with her GP, but if the GP has no objections, is there any reason I should not massage the woman? If not, what style/moves etc are best to help oedema?
Thanks in advance!
xx
RE: Oedema, Pregnancy and massage
Hiya
Well obviously only once you have gp clearance (I am only saying this as odema can sometimes be a symptom of PIH) then you need to use your drainage techniques on the woman... I find it is very effective. Obviously do not go in hard as you will effectively squish the cells...light gently stroking towards the heart, if you are not getting any movement it may be an idea to also go up to the lymph nodes in the groin to stimulate them, they may be feeling sluggish...if the swelling is quite firm you may need to do several sessions however if it is still soft she may respond really quickly...
good luck

Would recommend the woman sees a fully qualified manual lymph drainage practitioner - after making sure that pre-eclampsia is NOT involved.
