Hi everyone,
I started an ITEC Holistic Massage course last week and am stuck on our first assignment. My books have not arrived yet and I am finding it difficult researching some the topic on the internet. There is part of the question I am stuck on which relates to Body type and postural faults and how they may affect a body massage.
I have defined the body types Ectomorph, Endomorph and Mesomorph and could only guess about how these body types would affect a massage.
The postural faults are: Dowagers Hump, Round shoulders, Winged Scapulae, Midriff Bulge, Protruding abdomen, Hyper-extended knees, Fluid retention, Weight distribution, Poor muscle tone, Kyphosis, Lordosis, Scoliosis.
I have defined the postural faults but my A&P is not advanced enough to say how they may affect a treatment other that do be cautious or avoid or go lightly.
Does anyone know a good website to recommend that has this kind of info or can anyone give me any other advice.
Thank you!!
Sorry to hear that your assignment is causing you stress. My first thought and sorry if it sounds obvious would be have you gone to the library to do some research?
I can't think of specific websites but if you google something along the lines of "treating X condition with massage" you might find the answers.
I'm not sure how a person's body type would effect a massage. If someone is pear shaped or apple shaped it makes no difference to how I would do a massage.
With the postural condtions I would be thinking along the lines of the clients comfort, so you might need extra pillows or they may not be able to lie in certain positions comfortably.
Good luck
