[sm=wave.gif]Hi Everyone,

I'm very new to the world of forums, and this is my first post[sm=hidesbehindsofa.gif]

I'm just about to qualify in Swedish BM and I am going to be doing Indian Head and Aromatheraphy next, shortly followed by Reflex. I am also interested in Baby Massage and was wondering if anyone has any advice for me?

thanks

😀

RE: Baby Massage

Hi,

Is it best to do baby massage for groups of parents or does it work better on a one-to-one? Is it popular?

Cheers

RE: Baby Massage

Hiya
Its all down to you and the parents you can advertise the group workshops and then also put on there that you are available to do individual sessions (especially suitable for special requirements ie a blind parent)

Very popular, lots of places offer them...do the research in your area, check out the local clubs/gyms etc.
Hope tht helps a little

RE: Baby Massage

I have just completed my IIHHT as a Baby massage instructor and found it very different from body massage and aromatherapy massage.
Please note the first thing that you will need to be an instructor is police clearance.
This is very important in today`s climate and most practice manager of doctor

RE: Baby Massage

Hiya
I dont think you do actually need police clearance. It is not a requirement. As you do not massage the babies yourself or come into contact with them it is done by the Guardian of the child you dont become involved with the child at all, apart from the odd coo as they walk in the room!

I have never come accross a doctor that has stipulated that....mind you I have never come accross a doctor that would pass on pregnant/new mums it generally comes from the health visitors or midwifes.....

I appreciate you may have been taught differently.

with respect I think you should look at the new requirements which came into force on 1st april. on the childrens act which states that anyone who comes into contact with any babies, young children or any youth work must be cleared.

RE: Baby Massage

Hi
Also with respect 😀 the point is you DONT come into contact with the children.....or at least you shouldnt....If that were the case everybody but everybody would need to be police checked!
You need to be police checked if you come into direct contact with the children or the children have time alone with you....for instance you can quite happily work in a nursery without being police checked but are not allowed to change nappies or be left alone with the children.

However I am interested in this amendment perhaps you could provide a link as the government department and her majesty's stationary office which deals with publishing the acts are only showing ammendments up to 2002/2003?

Good point!!
The info was passed to me from my senior tutor at Gateshead College but only verbally. I think it is a further reaction to the Soham tragedy and the fact that people were not cleared

RE: Baby Massage

Hi
I have just heard from the college that i did my baby massage course and now with the new rules for baby massage vtct that you have to do a portfolia on yourself and also you have to produce a police clearance form in your exam file before there will pass you.

RE: Baby Massage

Anyone know of any good courses in london for this? The IAIM do it but charge about £500 for this - bit too pricey.
