Hello,
Really after some advice on treating someone undergoing IVF, I usually treat the client with reflexology to help relax client as has been under quite considerable stress over last year, she has now started IVF treatment and I have been advised not to traet client during this period as it may interefer with hormonal balance. I can see the need for my client to continue therapy to aid stress at the moment and so was hoping that IHM may be a good alternative, the only restriction I can see for this is in the first trimester of pregnancy, which is partially restricted (Which bits I am not sure?)
I feel going without treatments for her would do more harm then good, has anyone treated someone undergoing IVF or know of any reason why this is contraindicated?
Thank you

I do IHM and reflexology and have also treated clients going through IVF.

I see no reason why you shouldn't do the massage whilst your client is having IVF treatment, as you know it's a great way to de-stress and relax, and that is what she needs at the moment. I would just use only a base oil if you use for the massage.

Hope that helps

I used to be a pharmacist at a hospital that did IVF so can I just point out that the hormonal balance is crucial during the first trimester with ivf. Some women having IVF need to take progesterone during the first trimester to help maintain the pregnancy. So if what you do may effect that then caution is needed. You cannot assume that the bodies own hormones will be sufficient

Hi, I would agree that hormone balance is crucial, but stress hormones play havoc on these hormones too. I found this article about stress and infertility which might be helpful to you

If in doubt, get your client to talk with her clinic, to see if they are happy with it.

IVF is a well known fertility treatment that offers a great chance for infertile couples to start a family. In this process fertilization of sperm and eggs take place in a laboratory that results embryo or embryos which are transferred to the womb of woman to birth a child. As you are talking about reflexology, it functions to keep patient into state of calm and relax throughout the process.
