Hi, I posted a question about this in the newbies' section but didn't get any replies, so thought I'd try here. I'm currently studying for the VTCT L3 Certificate in Indian Head Massage, and loving it. This is my first venture into holistic therapy, although I also volunteer for the Red Cross's Therapeutic Care service, which I really enjoy.

The question I have is this: when I was practising IHM on another student, she said afterwards rhat she'd seen purple while receiving the treatment. I think this is a good sign, but am not really sure what it means. Does it mean that she is a spiritual person, or that I did a good treatment, or both, or neither?

Would be really interested to hear your views.

Thanks a lot

Hi Sarah
Its very good to hear what othes have to say, when you are new to something. You are good and you kind of know it, don't you?
Its a popular spiritual idea even myth that purple is good, very spiritual etc but liight carries all different colurs in it and if somone sees red they are not less spiritual, if somebody sees blue green, they are not more spiritual. There is no hierarchy like that. Fluctuations in consciousness, energy thats all.
You are good and you will get better no doubt after you have done it for a while. How does it matter what othes say? You are utterly unique and share in your own unique way.
Just enjoy what you do, it all happens by itself...

Hi jnani, thanks a lot for responding. I wish I did know I was good, but think the reason I was asking is that I'm rather lacking confidence so far, as this is all so new to me. But I hope I can become good! Anyway, thanks very much for your kindness and encouragement.

On seeing colours more generally, could you see/feel aura and chakras when you first started IHM? I can't at all, and have been worrying that I should be able to.

Thanks again for any insights you can give.

Forget about auras, it changes every two minutes. So much fuss about auras! When you meet someone you kind of know certian things don't you? Most people have that That is your own vibration interacting with theirs. Thats all there is to seeing an aura. Because it is subtle it does not mean it is special. It is subtle thats all. Some things ae just distractions. All spiritual stuff and non sense is certainly in that category.

Don't worry about what others see and can do. They are they, and you are you. Its no qualification for being spiritual although new age spirituality over plays these things. Mumbo jumbo again. What is real value of spiritual stuff is a loving heart and if you haven't got that the reast is just an empty circus for entertainment of ego.
Relax, you are doing just great. Relax my darling. Its all unfolding beautifully

Dear jnani

Thank you so much for your lovely reply, which gave me a real warm glow. I shall do my best to relax and enjoy my learning - it's all such fascinating stuff. And if my heart can be as loving as yours, I'll be happy!

Help!

Hi Sarah
I came upon your message and wondered if you can assist me.
I am studying VTCT Level 3 IHM but the tutor has given me little paperwork to learn, wont give me my VTCT book and hasn't got any past papers so I don't know what to expect in the exams ie exactly what I need to learn. If you have taken the exam, I'm not asking you to tell me what the questions were but I need to know what I need to learn if you follow me. Unfortunately at the time I joined there were no courses at local colleges etc and so I paid privately for the course - big mistake but I can't get my money back and can't afford to waste the money either. I need all the help I can get. I'll never do another course this way again!
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
L
Ps In relation to your original message, I have always believed that purple is the healing colour. Holistic therapies, in my opinion are more than just laying hands on people, massaging etc but the transfer of energies enabling and assisting with the healing process and colours are often seen by clients. I, like you though am learning and upto now have enjoyed the courses I have completed. I'm hoping that this one will be ok in the end but I'm not enjoying it as I feel stressed and left to my own devices 🙁

Purple is the colour my reiki patients most often report seeing during a treatment . I tend to feel it relates to the crown chakra - but have no proof of that.

Hi Lady67, sorry to hear about all the hassle with your course. As far as I understand it, VTCT changes its questions quite regularly, but they are always based on the topics listed in thye assessment book, which you can download from their website: see for the current IHM book. The questions for the exam are always based on the criteria shown in white in the book (on pages 44-46 in the book above).
I do recall that the paper wasn't too hard - they are multiple choice and you can often eliminate a couple of answers straight off, so you have a good chance of getting it right even if you're not completely sure of the answer. Also, you only have to score 70%, I'm pretty sure, so there's room for a few wrong answers.
Hope you get it all sorted soon. Good luck

Sarah X
