Hi all,
I am just at the end of my tether, after developing severe arthritis my life has changed dramatically. Constant cycle of pain, loss of mobility, enormous life disappointments, and on top of that weight gain. I have cut many foods out of my diet, tried my hardest to change my lifestyle at weekends however I do have a few gin and slimline tonics to keep me sane.
My consultant has recommended that I have bariatric surgery 😮 which scares me to death because that part of my system is the only bit that is well and I dont want to feel the sickness that comes with it.
I read about the lady who had a hypnotherapy and he pretend to do the gastric band op which was successful and she lost lots of weight, Sounds fantastic.
So have any of you any ideas regarding hypnosis and an idea of costs please, I have had yo yo'ed all my life losing up to 5 stone and always putting it back on with a bit extra.
Many thanks
Hi Orchid
The hyponosis is a great suggestion. I have used hyponosis to deal with several issues in my life and it has been very successful. To deal with my weight and food issues i used paul Mckenna's I can make you slim - which is just a cd and book. It only cost around £8 - well worth a try. Working with a trained hynotisit will mean that you get a more personalised service adjusted for you.
What i found useful about using hypnotherapy regarding food was that food became a 'non issue'. I was hungry i ate, i was full I stopped, I wasn't hungry i didn't eat. I still occasionally over indulge but food doesn't have the same power over me as it once did and my weight has remained amazingly constant.
Go for it!

You are right Orchid. Change happens when you really want a change. Maybe your situation has driven you to that point where you are ready to take control.
There is a lot you can do to shed of pounds without gastric bands.
Stop obsessing about weight. Your own experience tells you, how futile it has been. I kid you not, just bl**dy eat what you want! Trust your body and ask your body what it desires to eat before each meal. If you ask it honestly and be willing to eat what it desires, the cravings will go. Cravings occur because of supression.
That is a way of loving and approving your body.
Trying to slim down is dis-approving it big time. The undercurrent energy is " not good enough, horrible, ill at ease, hatred. Your body is trying to tell you how you are treating it. It is under constant threat from you and is piling on weight to feel safe.
Sit with this energy and sit it will release, even mental understanding should bring a shift.
On the practical level:
1. You can Google 'mudras' They are amazing for weight loss even for arthritis. Can be done while watching telly
2. After each meal have a teaspoon of apple cidar vinegar in a glass of water. Sip it like wine. It has so many side benefits.
3. Make a small start- go for a walk even if a few hundred yards the first day. Please Don't do it for losing weight do it for fresh air, chatting to someone on the way, having a break etc
4. Ease your effort a bit (better, drop it!) because it is not achieving anything other than keeping your attention firmly on the weight. Can you wonder at it that it keeps increasing? Your entire personal power is behind it! That is all you think about.
Make a pledge to yourself not to get slim, but to live. You have stopped living. Go out have fun play bingo, lighten up(literally), . Exlpore reasons to live not just losing weight.
Commit to being happy. I can assure you it Does not depend on being slim. Be like Vicar of Dibley not Dot Cotton. Completely at ease with how it is then it changes whichever way you want it to.
Love and hugs
Ruby
Hi Orchid,
Weight loss, with or without the gastric band sessions, is probably the most popular hypnotherapy treatment nowadays due to the success rates and being able to break away from the old cycle of constant yo-yo dieting. It's a permanent solution as opposed to diet plans and slimming clubs where you just end up back there again after putting weight back on.
The article you refer to is most likely Elite Clinics in Marbella? I believe they charge 1000 euros (plus you need to stay in Marbella for two weeks at your own cost). There are lots of hypnotherapists in the UK offering this treatment as well though. These are offered in lots of different formats and prices range from about £250 to £1000 for a series of sessions.
Unfortunately, as with anything popular, there are a few people who have really jumped on this bandwagon just to make money (no pun intended there). I've come across a therapist near me who has basically bought a franchise style course of a gastric band treatment and is only capable of offering rigid script-based sessions that will not work for everyone (I've had two people come to me complaining about one of these "therapists" and I know another hypnotherapist who has had two more), as he isn't a trained hypnotherapist, despite the company claiming they only offer the programme to established / trained hypnotherapists.
Rather than being caught out by this kind of marketing, look for a therapist who is a member of one of the regulatory bodies such as General Hypnotherapy Register, National Council for Hypnotherapy etc. Rather than the entire focus being on the gastric band sessions, you're better off with a series of sessions that will incorporate other weight loss and healthy lifestyle techniques so the problem is dealt with across the board.
If you're in London (as Tigress seems to think so), then Marisa Peer is one of the top weight loss hypnotherapists in your area, although she does come with a bit of a price tag (I think she's about £250 per session from memory).
Orchid, hypnotherapy is a great idea ... and EFT and various other things. But the real issue to address that will help you lose weight is why you overeat/gain weight in the first place.
Release all of that, those emotional issues suppressed with food and you won't need to to it any more. And then you won't have to have the gastric band - which imo is likely to add to your problems rather than cure them - and you will find you eat healthier anyway and the weight will just drop away. And maybe the arthritis and the other physical issues too 🙂
Bannick has given you a good link for hypnotherapists and here's one for EFT practitioners: EFT Register, which is where all the AAMET qualified practitioners are listed
Best of luck

I have great sympathy for those who have issues with their weight. I believe that the human body was made to crave fat-rich foods and sugars. The problem is that we have developed our civilisation in such a way that they are instantly available, and easier to obtain, than more healthy alternatives. This is because, of course, there is a ready market for them, because we are made to crave etc etc etc.
They are also easier to package and store than fresh, healthy foods.
So those who find overeating these foods solves their problems - for a time - have a real, lifetime battle. All addictions have both a physical and a psychological component. If drink does it for you, alcohol can be avoided completely. Similarly drugs and tobacco. But not food.
My own approach is to work on uncovering the underlying feelings that are being so well kept away by the overeating, drugs, alcohol, sex, addiction-of-choice. Work with the psychological benefits/deficits associated with the addiction first.
Some sense of these can often be gained by contemplating the question "What was going on in my life at the time I started with this problem?" - although it isn't often completely tidy. When these feelings are uncovered and worked through as they manifest in the present, for once and for all, then there is a likelihood that the physical side of the addiction will be easier to resolve, and relapses will be less frequent and easier to self-control..
Thank you all for your very supportive and interesting replies. Please accept my apologies for not being able to reply sooner as had house guest for the week.
So much information and ideas to take in, I will take some time to look at the websites and study your replies in more depth.
I will be taking on board many of the suggestions made, firstly with Paul Mckennas cd and book, EFT and looking at hypnotherapists around the NW.
Walking and standing is extremely painful, I can only walk a short distance and either use a wheelchair or scooter, in desperate need of new knee joints, walking and salsa dancing were my favourite past times. I love aqua aerobics where I feel like my old self.
I am looking forward to the day when food isnt an issue or my best friend when I feel down.
Many many thanks for your help xxxxx
Hi orchid
You could try to join other people who are trying to improve their fitness.
That way you keep each other motivated.

Great to stumble across this whilst having a look at what people are doing to support themselves in weight loss and getting fitter.

im a clinical hypnotherapist but it's not all about putting people to sleep, sometimes we just talk and it really helps so well done to you !
