Hypnotherapy on CNHC

I've registered. I didn't register as an aromatherapist, but thought this would be worth doing - I suppose my thinking is that a doctor is more likely to recommend hypnotherapy than massage/aromatherapy, so there might be more value in signing up.

I think the CNHC is a good idea in principle, even if there are plenty of people hoping to undermine it and see it fail. It will only work, though, if practitioners make the effort to sign up - so get your name down for it. And if it doesn't work, it's only cost 30 quid!

The GHR did a test vote on this and found the majority of those polled didn't want to associate hypnotherapy with complementary therapies in general, preferring to go down the route of associating with psychotherapy etc. Of those polled, the only therapists that were for joining CNHC were those who offer other complementary therapies and therefore liked the idea of putting all their therapies under one roof.

I have to say that I agree with the majority on this, I don't want to be lumped in with therapies, some of which I actually don't believe in, or be regulated by people who know little or nothing of what I do. I'll be keeping a close eye to see how CNHC progresses but as Masha has said, there is a lot of controversy surrounding CNHC and, at least for now, is not something I would want to associate myself with.

Hypnotherapy has had umbrella organisations regulating the regulatory bodies for a number of years now, I don't see the need for hypnotherapists to be included in CNHC. I have several clients who have claimed for their treatments through private health insurance and in each case, the insurance company has only been interested in whether or not I am registered with UKCHO. I also have GPs who refer patients to me, again only interested in if I am registered with UKCHO,nobody has ever mentioned CNHC to me and the only time I've ever brought it up, the GP hadn't heard of them.

Yup, I changed my mind but not my opinion, if that makes sense. I decided with the recent comment by the Department of Health that better to join than not in the unlikely event a potential client would know to look for CNHC membership. I also noticed that a couple of the competitors I take seriously have joined and decided that adding another membership may also help me to separate myself from the worrying number of bloody awful hypnotherapists I hear about from clients all the time.

I still don't think it's the right thing for hypnotherapy but if the PAs I'm a member of have joined up then I'll follow suit and see. I also felt better about joining when I found out that someone from GHSC/GHR had taken a position with CNHC. At the end of the day, I decided the pros might outweigh the cons now and the cost is negligible (moreso as I joined on the last day to get the discount for hypnotherapists!).

So yes, you kind of have a half-convert 😀

Lol dont worry im not checking up on everyone, was just curious about the Manchester area, following on from a massage thread, and saw your name, and remembered this thread.

People join for different reasons, I would have registered even if I wasnt involved with CNCH, as I think that eventually we will have a more professional CAM industry because of it, though only time will tell, and it isnt a huge chunk out of my therapy income, so im happy to pay it.

That was what swayed me as well. Even though none of my clients ask, look or question any of the associations/organisations, amazes me...

Although you may not be asked about your qualifications / associations / organisations by your clients, it is quite likely that they have looked you up on the internet before they come to their appointment.

Because of the ease of access to the websites of associations and training providers I don't get as many phone calls checking up on the qualifications of practitioners. But a few years ago it was really common to be asked about the qualifications held by practitioners - even if an appointment had already been made. The last minute jitters meant that they wanted to be re-assured that their chosen practitioner was qualified and a member of an association.

I was once told that a new client will have seen three pieces of information on the therapist or therapy before making the decision to make an appointment - the CNHC website might just help sway the decision.
