Does their training allow you to join a nationally recognised organisation - there are a couple - might be a good idea to ask around and do some research. It's a lot of money to spend on something that may not take you very far. Hopefully Bannick will be along with some words of wisdom....

Hi Squidges. I tried to look at the website based on the link that you used as the title of the thread but can't get it to work. Admittedly, this may not be a cause for concern, just a mistype! If it is one of the free .me websites then I would be slightly concerned as, if I remember correctly, these are free websites and I'm always suspicious of businesses that can't afford a proper website domain. however, as I can't find the site, I may be wrong.

In the current economicl climate, I wouldn't actually be surprised to see a decent training provider charging £1200 so I'm not overly put off by that.

The main thing to take into account, as Jabba pointed out, is does the course qualify you for entry into one of the reputable professional associations such as the General Hypnotherapy Register (not to be confused with "The Hypnotherapy Register" which is just a hypnotherapist directory) and theNational Council for Hypnotherapy (there are lots of others but these are, to my knowledge the two biggest). If not, then in my opinion, walk away. If they are accredited by one of these organisations then there should be lots of practical work. You can work through hypnotherapy theories until you're blue in the face but in my opinion, the practical experience counts far more.

With regard to the various types of hypnotherapy courses, I'm going to try to be careful and not to start a big hypnotherapist row on here! In my opinion, there are those in the world of hypnotherapy who try to over-complicate things and come up with lots of glorious titles to make their training look better than the next course. My tutor on the the main course (main meaning I've done lots of CPD since then) that I trained in had some thirty years experience and is a qualified psychologist (who packed in psychology when he realised how effective hypnotherapy is). He uses the term Clinical Hypnotherapist but is far more qualified, in my personal opinion, to use some of the other terms than many of those who claim them.

In my opinion, and in fact the way I chose my training provider, I would suggest that you check the courses have the relevant accreditations, look at their websites, speak to them and decide which course provider feels right to you and, where possible and within reason, ignore the cost. There are lots of different teaching styles out there and not all will sit right with everyone. I now teach back at the school I originally trained at and we frequently have people join the course part way in who have been to other schools that are perfectly reputable but haven't like the teaching style and have left after the first module. Most schools will take time out to talk to you, possibly offer an intro day/workshop at little or no cost and/or a face to face discussion with an tutor. At the end of the day, you're forking out anything from £1200 to £3000, you're the "customer", if they aren't interested in taking the time to talk to you then why bother going to them?

Just to add to my post, I've now managed to get their website to work!

I haven't checked it on the GHSC website but they do say they are GHSC accredited (the accrediting body behind the General Hypnotherapy Register). Although I don't find their website particularly informative, if they are GHSC accredited then the training level is to industry standard. The site does say that the £1200 is a limited offer so I would guess they're just feeling the pinch of the recession and are actually ok.

I would say double check the GHSC training provider register and contact them and see how you feel. If they are GHSC accredited and you like what you hear then snap their hand off at £1200!

I was hoping you might reply, your posts are always a wealth of helpful information. Big thank you for taking the time. I have checked and they are registered with the GHSC. I have contacted the training provider and they have only 5 people on each course with free a catch up evening should you miss a day for some reason. So I think I'm going to bite the bullet and am really excited about it.
