Therapist and ex therapist believe me to 'suffer' from DID.
I am seriously thinking about hypnosis. I have been unable to get any real feedback from my unconscious about what it is that is 'bothering' me.
Dreams are always about the same things like, running away, being chased, terror etc. But there are no clues about what has happened to me as a child. I have no memories.

I would like to try hupnosis to get to the bottom of this memory loss. Something is holding me back to live my life to the fullest and I dont know what it is. 5 years of therapy have not shed any light onto it at all.

There is an 'idea' that there has been extrem abuse... but who knows. I would like to find out what happened so I can work through it and move on.

Has anyone had some experience with memory retrieval via being hypnotised? How does it work? Any feedback greatly appriciated

Hi Mea, I would suggest that you are very careful in your choice of hypnotherapist and make sure that they are experienced with DID (I am guessing there are not many that are). Yes hypnosis can help retrieve repressed memories but the important thing is what the therapist does after that to help their client to process these memories in a safe and appropriate way - you do need someone who is competent and experienced in this area.

Hello Masha

I think I agree with you.... I was thinking of bringing the stuff that comes up during hypnotherapy to the psychotherapist I am seeing right now? Or do you mean that the hypnotherapist should do that work with me?

I am a little confused. I m not sure about what a 'good' hypnotherapist is like. I will google some hypnotherapists in my area and see what will come up. Is there a good website I could look at, maybe something like the BACP for hypnotherapists?

I have to admit I am very scared of the hypnotherapy but it seems my only way right now. I feel so stuck in therapy, and I feel I am paying so much money and nothing is happening.
I am not sure but would it be possible for my counsellor to come with me when I am being hypnotised?
Its just that I dont have anyone else who could come with me. I have no family here and only one friend who lives an hour away from me.

It's indeed difficult to pick a "good" one, Mea - which area are you in? I might be able to recommend someone or at least give a suggestion on where you might look.

did with hypnosis

Hi

there is a very good american hypnotist who specialises in DID called david caloff you maybe able to find some info on the web about him.

from my knowledge most hypnotherapists and even psychologists are not experienced at treating DID.

you may be able to find the DSM4 description of did on the web and see if you match any of the "symptoms".

I have some questions you may want to ask yourself.

1) who gave you a diagnosis of DID ?

2) if you have been in therapy for that long with out results how long will you keep going before you try something else?

3) what is your final out come for the therapy?

4) what styles of councilling/therapy have you had?

5) how do you know you have abuse from the past?

Hi Mea

I googled this subject on the net and would advise caution as there are some concerns that hypnosis may increase the risk of creating false memories.

However, you may be interested to read about how EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) may help Dissociative Identity Disorder, via this link:

I very much hope this can help you Mea.

Hi Mea,
Only yesterday I finished 'All of Me' by Kim Noble, a brilliant true life story of a woman with DID. She worked thru her acceptance using Art therapy. If you google her name there's info about her and she has a website too. Also in the back of her book there are useful links etc. if you need anymore info just ask.

Hope you 'All' find happiness.
