Has anybody ever come across hypnotherapy as a solution to help someone sleep when they are normally kept awake at night by someone snoring?

I am a really light sleeper and my partner starts snoring pretty much as soon as her head touches the pillow - this hinders not only my own nights sleep but hers as well as i am forever nudging her to wake her up to try and stop her snoring. At the moment we are having to sleep in separate rooms so i am hoping to come up with a solution.

I was wondering if hypnotherapy could train someones mind so that they ignore the sound of the snoring? Can a light sleeper even be hypnotised?

I believe some people do find hypnotherapy can help with the snoring itself, and I can imagine it may help you to sub consciously be able to ignore the sound whilst you sleep, though a hypnotherapist will certainly be able to give you a better answers.

As a snorer myself, I've found (or the other half has, I'm asleep so what do I know hehe!) that a mandibular splint works. I got mine from .

Hope that helps

I wear silicone ear plugs to blot out the noise of my husbands snoring - and have been doing this for years. I also use them when staying in hotels on business trips - I don't have to listen to what is happening in the room next door or on the street outside! I have never had problems with safety, as any smoke alarms that have activated can penetrate the silicone...... as can my cat, who my husband cannot hear when it's yelling to come in the house at 4 in the morning!!

I can completely relate, as the wife of a very loud snorer. U wear earplugs but hubby's snoring is so loud that the earplugs are no help. We sleep in separate rooms whn we can as this is the only way I can get any sleep.

Energylz, thanks for that tip. I'll take a look at these. The price is a bit high, but I'm willing to spend a bit to save my sanity.

Correction, I only saw the price of the custom one which is £125. The Standard model is only £29.95.

There is a self hypnosis technique that actually encourages you to focus on what you can see feel and hear around you. I have helped people with insomnia using hypnotherapy. Your case is rather different. If you could learn this technique then the snoring could become a trigger to HELP you sleep .

And yes light sleepers can be hypnotised if they WANT to be.

I am also facing this problem so i can understand your problem that snoring is very irretating habit and in my opinion hypnotherapy aims to re-programme patterns of behaviour within the mind, enabling irrational fears, phobias, negative thoughts and suppressed emotions to be overcome. So it is little bit helpful for stopping snoring.

Yes. I tell my students about a client I worked with who initially asked if I could stop her partner snoring. I asked her, "If he continued snoring, but you felt okay with that, would that be okay?" She said it would. In trance, I asked her to notice how every time he snored, it was a wonderful sign that he was still alive. She broke down in tears and realised how much he meant to her, and it put everything in perspective. Good result and she was very happy.

Hey Bilbobaggins,

I'm not sure I've seen any hypnosis methods that would help with snoring as it has more to do with the underlying factors that are not always seen. Has she been had any testing done to determine what's causing her to snore? It's so different for everyone.

I know for me, my snoring problem was as a result of having a very narrow air passageway. So, I started using one of the best snoring mouthpieces on the market. It holds my tongue slightly forward so that air can get through. It's worked wonders for me and it's quite simple and inexpensive. But, I know that different things work differently for each individual.
