I picke dup in anther forum / thread about hot stone + reflexology
and one of the people said about collecting your own stones from beaches etc where they are washed up

question is ---- does anyone know which parts of the UK might have beaches etc where basalt stones might be washed up ?

Have tried google searches but the results baffle me .... plus I am no archeologist so have no idea where to start

Steve

A friend collected a few stones from a beach - sorry I don't know which one. However she found that some of the stones ended up crumbllng. I bought my hot stones via a company in America and I believe they came from areas with volcanoes.

Hi Steve,
Don't know if this is true, but I have been told that you can try Brighton beach. Or any other beaches around, but it needs to be specific stones - sorry I cannot help in this matter. Heard that if wrong one they do crumble - think if it's density like marble (cold stones) you shouldn't heat them and if used oils it can get inside and somehow they crumble... sorry for the mumble.. 😀

Let's see what others can suggest - I'd like to know this too!

Don't know where in UK you can pick up stones from beach, but wherever they are they won't be as good at retaining their heat as proper ones. There IS a difference between quality basalt stones and those picked up on the beach, unless you live in a volcanic country. Due to the volcanic nature, true basalt stones retain their heat far longer than those picked up from any other beach area.
