Would love to see some bibliograph regarding the effects of the Piezo Eletric using stones, specially basalt stones, as I could not find anywhere any bibliograph regarding this effect on basalt stones... I found several researchs in automotive industry, the effect of the tires in the ground producing the piezo eletric effect, but nothing (bibliograph) regarding stones... any one could give me a link to see it written : (i do not have the question sign available at my keybord....
Have you tried Wikipedia or Google - there are several pages related to the subject - make sure you spell it right - piezoelectric basalt came back with lots of info.
Jabba, thanks for the information, I really
found lots of info, the only problem is, so far I did not find information regarding that a Basalt Stone "knocking" another one will produce the Piezoelectric effect. I have read several pages with experiment on geophysics that the effect is use against several types of stones, with a head of a device is made by Quartz crystal, but nothing saying that basalt produces the effect. If you have the info, please let me know ! great apreciated ! any effort !
Basalt stones are a mixture of various materials - one of those materials is quartz. You can find some basalt stones with 'rings' in them of visible quartz layers, but usually the quartz is not dectable to the naked eye. Knocking the stones IS knocking very small quantities of quartz together, hence piezoelectric effect. So all the info you have found about quartz does apply.
I think the physical vibration and sound vibration contributes more to the results from knocking a couple of stones together, but there is a small contribution from the piezoelectric effect, and it sounds more significant.
