I read and hear with some bemusement that small doses of peanut protein have been used in such a way that some people allergic to peanuts are 'cured' of this. Why am I not surprised! The theory of homeopathy, 'like curing like' come to mind here!! One of the researchers involved in this work at Edinburgh Uni, is even quoted as saying that they used' homeopathic doses of peanut'...
When oh when, will the medical profession just get off their pedestals and have an honest look at homeopathy and acknowledge that with some funding, it would be worth doing some proper research into using homeopathic medicines, instead of dismissing it outright as they seem keen to do. The UK is such a narrow minded country...and still the NHS is under pressure....unbelievable. Hom

To be pedantic the peanut treatment is really isopathy, but yes I totally understand your feelings. Homoeopathy is powerful and deeply deeply effective on mind, body and emotions.
Just remember - the more they fight back the more fearful they are that they are wrong and we are right!

Hi Christina, you're quite right of course. So for the benefit of anyone else reading, isopathy means treating with the exact same substance and is often practised by homeopaths but they may- and most commonly do- also treat with a similar substance -so a subtle difference there.
Either way- not much recognition by the medical profession! Hom

Hom, it's not specifically the UK that has medical science dismissing it, it's science worldwide that does.

Of course their 'reasoning' is that because of the dilution levels there cannot possibly be a molecule of the original substance left in the resultant treatment.

However, that's completely unscientific and unmathematical of them.

a) Continued dilution of a substance cannot totally eradicate a substance. In mathematical terms if means that statistically, if you're looking for a whole molecule of original substance then the chances of finding it in any single treatment become less than 100%

b) For some reason the seem fixated on things needing to be 'molecules' as if they are the smallest part of a substance. Yet chemistry can deal with things on an atomic level, just as physics can deal with things on a sub atomic level, and even recognises that energy and quantum entanglement are things they have yet to fully understand. After all these are the same people who claim the possibility of multiple universes, or explain things with string theories etc. yet none of them have actually seen an electron yet, they've only seen a consistent effect they call 'electrons'.

It's unfortunate, but that's the nature of science... scientists stuck in their scientific beliefs.... or as I like to call it.. the religion of science. Many of the great scientific discoveries were by those who stepped outside the boundaries of accepted science and stuck to their guns, ignoring the stupid peers who ridiculed them, only to prove such people wrong later on.

As you say, it's about time that some proper research and funding was put into testing homeopathy, and not just the same old double blind clinical tests that pharma companies use to fool the regulators into believing their drugs work (for which they've recently been criticized greatly).

A LOT of pharmacists have a huge problem with homeopathy....and I have taken stick over the years because I refuse to condemn it out of hand. The chemistry side of it DOES bother me.......but many years ago when I was studying homeopathy I went on a lot of forums where it was discussed. One lady I met who was a massive believer in Homeopathy.......was a quantum physicist!!. She didn't know how it worked either! But then we still don't know how Paracetamol works..............and its only been in the last 30 years we have worked out how aspirin has its effect.

The peanut issue however is NOT homeopathy in any way shape or form because whatever they used will not have been prepared in accordance with homeopathic principles.

To say this story is a vindication of homeopathy or homeopathic principles shows a misunderstanding oh what has truly been done in this trial.

Tashanie- I agree with you and I was being provocative in a sense, with my original posting. However, not to forget that the original development of using homeopathically prepared substances was discovered following on from the relatively successful use of crude material preparations given on a like curing like basis.
I've practiced homeopathy for many years now and seen some wonderful results from using it but it still amazes me....there's so much we don't understand on an energetic level. Hom

I used to see some interesting discussions about vaccines , immunisation and homeopathy back when I was active in homeopathy. I discovered there is massive prejudice on BOTH sides of the homeopathic vs allopathic debate
