I heard about this news item on The Wright Stuff this morning.
I wonder if there is a pharmaceutical body behind this protest?
What do you think of the story?
Now I'm getting confused - I just did a google search on the group behind the protest and found a forum called "why we protest" with a post with link to the group website titled Tick off Scientologists by fighting Homeopathy in UK!
I hear about this a few days. I haven't laughed so much in ages.
I wasn't sure what I found funnier - what they were doing, their complete and obvious misunderstand of how homoeopathy works, the fact they are protesting against a private company or laughing at their belief that the public shouldn't have freedom to act and medicate as they see fit.
I and other homoeopathy fans let them use orthodox medicine in complete freedom, so why won't they let us do as we want?
kind regards,
Christina
Homeopathy protest outside Boots
Hundreds of people are planning to overdose on homeopathic remedies to prove they are ineffective.
Thought I would post for everyone's information.
Hello folks
Just to let you all know that, as we had two threads on this topic, in different forums, they've now been merged into one, here in Natural Remedies 🙂

I thought they might be a serious organisation but when I looked at the website it appears they run their debates in pubs!! Not sure if they are just wanting to cause mischief. Not sure if they are against Boots or scientology. As far as I'm aware they won't suffer any ill effects from the stunt but what will that proof? I thought the whole thing of how homeopathy works was the subtleness of it.
*sigh* it'll prove nothing.
Taking "too much" of a homeopathic remedy causes the person to prove the symptoms rather than it healing them. e.g. taking to much of a remedy that is supposed to aid sleep because the symptoms are lack of sleep will likely prevent sleep rather than aiding it. Some they take too much of this remedy, it doesn't do what it's supposed to, and therefore they can claim that it doesn't work.
Just shows they don't understand homeopathy and their proof is not a proof.
Quite frankly, the argument that's commonly used about there being nothing in the remedies because the dilution means that statistically there is no atoms or molecules of the original substance left in it (Avogadro's constant) and therefore that is scientific proof that it's nothing but a sugar pill, is borrocks and "old science". It doesn't take account of quantum principles of sub-atomic particles, quantum entanglement or any of the other modern science principles, some of which are in use by science to create the technology we use today. It also completely ignores the fact that E=mc^2, i.e. energy equates to mass and mass equates to energy and it is the energy of the substance that exists in the dilution. Homeopaths do not claim that there are molecules of the substance left in the dilution, it's the skeptics that use that as their "proof".
I used to be skeptical of homeopathy myself, but tried it and it worked, and I know it wasn't just placebo as I truly did not expect it to do anything. However, now I know it does work, I have increased my understanding of that area and I know the skeptics out there really don't understand what they're talking about. They're just afraid of losing their own science and afraid to move forward.... hang on... I'm sure there's a remedy for that sort of thing... 😉

inially it made me laugh...all these people swallowing loads of tiny white pills to prove a point..but who will care?
But then I became concerned for thier well being ..like Giles says, if they do not actually need the remedy they are taking, they could 'prove' homeopathy in a homeopathic way..by developing symptoms.
My concern after that is that the worst case could be that low dose homeopathic medicines currently available, and of great benefit.. could be made unavailable if seen as unsafe after such a demo...

I don't think they would be seen as unsafe if these demonstrators were to prove symptoms from them. That would be like making paracetamol unavailable because people have overdosed on them, or making kitchen knives unavailable because someone has committed suicide with one. I would be quite clear that these people have done this to themselves intentionally and you can't base the rest of the population on the actions of the few.

Even if they do "prove" a remedy the symptoms will simply fade in a few days.
But what if someone takes the right remedy for them at the right time and is cured!!!! Imagine that! Hee hee.

My experience of homeopathy wasn't wholey positive, purely because instead of my symptoms getting better they got a whole lot worse. Now they can't say that that was in my head as why would I make myself worse? I really wanted it to work and I really needed to feel better!
I've tried homeopathy since with good effect, so I know that if the dose is right it works, for me anyway.
Let them try to overdose, at worst they will get some interesting symptoms they weren't expecting for a few days, at best someone will find that the symptoms they have are alleviated. Good luck to them 😉
Have just read the sunday telegraph link. What a ridiculous thing to do- and as put previously, it just goes to show the ignorance of the people taking part.(I didn't understand the bit about them drinking homeopathic liquids(?)) I thought Boots only sold tablets?
Unfortunately, there has been quite a negative drive in the past year against homeopathy. I, like many other homeopaths, just try to ignore it- there are plenty of people that choose homeopathy- and I just get on with my practice and develop an even thicker skin!
Personally, I don't think that any of these protests make much of an impact, and what really amazes me is that there are people around that can really be that bothered. Haven't they got anything better to do with their time?! Hom
