Hi I have been investigating homeopathy as an aid to asthmatic son aged 13. He has a penchant for the "bad" foods, if we go to a homeopath will he insist on changing the diet? I know some about dairy, gluten, sugars, cravings, fish etc etc - and doubt son will be fully on board if this is insisted upon.
Have I been right in reading that the treatment can aid in a natural decrease in the patients desires for these foods too?
Would appreciate your comments.

the only thing he may be asked to give up is coffee....and no mints while he is taking the remedies as they cancel out the homeopathic remedy.
Your sons food preferences may well interest the homeopath, as a way of deciding which remedy, but will be in terms of does he prefer fatty/salty/sweet/hot/cold food
Is the asthma worse for hot/cold/salty etc food
I have never heard of a homeopath insisting on a patient giving up foods

Hi- Homeopaths do vary in their approach and it's as well to ring around and have a chat with a few if you can.
Personally, unless someone's on a really silly diet, (e.g. 20 cups of tea a day- it does happen!) I don't give any nutritional advice. I also have no clinical eveidence that coffee or mint affects the treatment and I just advise to continue as normal.
Yes, you might find that your son doesn't want quite as much of his usual foods! But if not, I'm sure he'll grow out of it! He might be apprehensive about the treatment but it only involves a chat for half an hour- with you with him of course- and then some tasteless pills to suck. -He'll cheer up as he starts to need his inhaler less, I expect!
I would say, give it a go! HTH Hom
My homoeopath/herbalist is trained in nutritional therapy, so she does advise me about food, but I don't think that all homoepaths do this. Maybe if it is a naturopath, they might.
I have been able to stop using one of my inhalers (I was on 3) by using homoeopathy and herbs that were prescribed to me.
I hope your son gets success too xxx
Thank you all so very much for your replies, I will go ahead with this now. I am hoping to combine it with Buteyko breathing as and when finances allow (!) this I feel will be of help to him too.
Blessings,:)

Oh that sounds wonderful! I would love to try this too. Ive heard good things about it. I one had a book about it from the library.
Hi Jules,
I have been seeing a Homeopath for my daughters who has Eczema,Asthma and Allergies.
We are avoiding certain foods at the moment but, she has given me remedies to combat her egg allergy and we will keep on going with the remedies until she is tolerant of all the foods the cause her problems at the moment.
She may recommend using a sugar substitute - we use Xylitol - great when making cakes and for putting on cereal.
At the moment even though it is winter her asthma is very manageble and we have only has 1 cough/cold since starting back at school.
As for Buteyko, we too are starting this, I have just had the Dvd's delivered as I have bought them off ebay for £22.
Good Luck,
Vicky 🙂
Hi Vicky,
Your post follows on from quite an old thread , nevertheless it's good to hear that homeopathy is helping your daughter and it shows that heavy prescribed drugs aren't always necessary.
Homeopathy isn't always a quick fix (although in acute cases the results can be instant) -in your daughter's case, there will be ups and downs but you are investing in a treatment that means she can be free of serious health problems eventually, and very likely for the rest of her life, without needing to rely on medication.
It is a great part of my job to follow through cases like your daughter's and see that inhalers and eczema creams have become a thing of the past.
It isn't always understood that homeopathy's aim is to provide long term, if not permanent relief, with a minimum of treatment; it isn't aiming to just control symptoms as is often done with allopathic medicine.
Hope all goes well. Hom
