Hi,
I suffer from terrible PMT both physically and emotionally twice a month (period & ovulation), and so feel like I only have about one week a month when I feel normal - whatever that feels like! I have put all of my eggs in one basket and lumped my symptoms into PMT, but I have also had a lot of trauma and stress in the last five and a half years since my son was born (heart conditon diagnosed antenatally).
Needless to say I am now a single mum and unfortunately my son gets the brunt of my terrible mood swings. I am constantly tired, irritable, snappy (shout at him a lot which just isn't me as a person), I get really angry, I am noise intolerant, I can swing from feeling like this to being quite hypo from one day to the next. Sometimes I am not sure wether I am going to shout or cry! I have also noticed that I can get triggered by something I hear on the radio or see on the television, which results in bouts of sobbing that come out of nowhere and I have no control over. When this happens there is no noise and my body is wracked with the sobbing, and I can never work out what is going on.
I have recently been to see a gynocologist who has backed up what the GP says - antidepressants (SSRI's), the pill or a coil to try to flatten my cycle out and relieve the symptoms. Obviously I don't want to do this.
I went to see a homeopath a couple of years ago and was told that my constitutional remedy? is Sepia - if I bought this from Holland & Barrett would it help if I took it for a while? I can't afford to pay to see a therapist so just wanted to check on here to see what people think.
Someone has also recently suggested 5-HTP, does anyone have any knowledge of this?
Thanks for reading.

[Homeopathic] Sepia - if I bought this from Holland & Barrett would it help if I took it for a while?
No, it won't.
You can both start Kali phos 6x ( available from most health food shops) for yourself and your son straight away. It s effective and without side effects.
It will help with the excessive emotions for both of you.
The other thing that shouts out from your post is that you can perhaps do with some acceptance of the period. I have worked with many a women with PMT and as they begin to relax about it, the symptoms almost disappear. Take your focus away from how horrible it is and what terrible things it does to you. Natural processes of the body never hurt. The story that runs in our head about the process can and does hurt. Relax. Take a break from worrying about PMT.
It is quite obvious that you have had a rough time with things. Relax, you are strong and wise. You can manage beautifully, just stop focusing too much on this issue. You are inadvertantly making it worse.
Forge a friendship with yor body and all its cycles. Your body will act as a friend. drop the idea of normal. What is normal for you is normal. Rest are all just mind games. Drop the mental fight, you have enough to deal with.
Relax and feel gartitude that you still have a body to enjoy life with. Small steps, go easy on yourself. be gentle with yourself. Things will begin to soften in your life when you begin being kind to yourself
Sending loving hugs to you and your son

Bless you Ruby.
What is Kali Phos and how much should we take daily?
I pray and send thanks and gratitude up on a fairly daily basis for getting me this far forward in my life (huge changes!). I can mostly cope with the physical side of my cycle and like the fact that I am in tune with my body to the extent that I know when & which side I am ovulating on as I can feel it. I just hate this constant cycle of mood swings because it has been going on since my son was born and he is almost six. I feel exhausted with it all to be honest. I do wonder if my body is in a constant state of fight or flight because I feel so tense all the time, it feels like my nerves are frayed and my son is attacking them all the time, which is where my noise intolerance may come in too?
It has been a tough few years with my sons condition and then seperating from his dad amongst other things but I am making changes that I hope will make things easier and better for me, but are causing more stress right now!
Kali Phos is a bio chemic remedy( twelve tissue remedies). It is very similar to homeopathy except that it is only 12 of these remedies and they cover the entire spectrum of mind-body symptoms.
Take 4 pills upto 4 times. It is quite inexpensive and you can continue to take it for months, if you feel it benefits. it is safe for your son too.
Your noise intolerance is probably due to the incessant mantal chatter. Just take it easy. Love your self and your beautiful child.
Things are going to get better, just watch, relax, Do what needs be done but relax,
Om shanti om shanti Om shanti
Hi, I would just like to add a further comment:
Homeopathic remedies- like Kali Phos, Sepia etc., are prescribed by a homeopath according to the holistic, whole picture of a person's health. So everything about them is taken into account, physically, emotionally and mentally. It follows, therefore, that the best way to receive an appropriate remedy is to consult a homeopath.
If you have a short lived acute condition (like a cold for example) it's possible to buy a remedy that will help short term but for more chronic issues (Like your PMT), choosing a remedy is a much more complex business. (That's why the training is so long!)
Having said that, if you've had Sepia in the past, after a consultation, and it's helped you, it may do again (equally it may not!). No remedy will harm you but it's harder to say which ones will help!
If you're drawn to homeopathy, you can go to a local student low cost clinic and there are also some that operate by donation only basis.
Evening primrose oil may also be helpful.
Feel free to pm me if you need further homeopathic information. HTH Hom
Hi,

Nothing to do with homeopathy, but a piece of moonstone crystal is excellent for PMT issues. Might be worth finding a piece and wearing it.
Thanks for your messages Hom and Rosie - I will see if I can find a low cost clinic and will see if I can find the crystal!
I have been reading past posts and came across one from a lady who was suffering the same sort of symptoms as me, and who had also had a lot of stress and trauma over the last few years which had obviously made the PMT worse (or vice versa). One of the responses to her post was from a nutritionist who felt that lumping it all under PMT might not be the way to go. She wondered if the lady's adrenals and nervous system needed supporting as her body may have been in a constant state of fight or flight. She suggested acupuncture and reflexology as good therapies for that kind of support. Something about this rings true for me as I feel that I am always on edge and clenched, have trouble relaxing, and that my nerves are constantly being battered by my son bless him. he is just being a normal five year old but for me it is too much to cope with a lot of the time.
Anyway, I have bought some Kali Phos as it can't help to try it, and I am seeing a nutritionist as part of a therapy swap and will try to find other swaps for homeopathy etc.
Thanks
Mandie
In my view, it's impossible to seperate your stress from your present PMT. Our physical symptoms are often a manifestation of our emotional energy state. Also our hormones are all inter-related so the 'overworking' of the adrenal gland could certainly affect the hormonal levels premenstrually. Hom
I am sending you a p.m. Mandie as after looking at your website I might be able to give you info about some low cost homeopathy.
