For the past 8 years, whenever I have been in a relationship I have felt that my partners needed to know almost everything about me. If I was worried they wouldn't accept me then Id have to blab everything to make sure they would.
I personally don't think I've ever done anything horrible in my life, I'm a good person but I have certain feelings that i think some people wouldnt be able to accept.
But given that I've never actually done anything 'wrong', I'd much rather be happier keeping these things to myself, but I can't be happy thinking someone would break up with me if they knew everything.
I know it's not a healthy way to think and I'm wondering what the most appropriate type of therapy would be to look for, to help me get over this unrealistic way of thinking.
Any thoughts?
Hhhhhm, I guess it's a bit horses for courses and maybe trying different things to see what suits you.
I don't know if you have tried Emotional Freedom technique (EFT) or Neurolinguistic programming (NLP) or Cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT)?
There are some therapists here who are more mind orientated than me so I am sure you will get some constructive replies.
NLP with maybe some hypnotherapy would be my approach to this. I wouldn't be surprised if regression was helpful but I normally just focus on empowering the patient to make the changes they want . I would see EFT and CBT being valuable as well.
Hi Carpula and welcome to Healthypages,
From what you describe it sounds like some underlying emotional/attitude issue for you. In that case I agree with Patchouli and Tashanie, that therapies under the 'mind therapies' umbrella are likely to be the way to go. That includes Hypnotherapy, NLP, EFT etc. and may also benefit from Timeline Therapy.
Typically you find people who practice Hypnotherapy will also be a practitioner of NLP and/or Timeline Therapy and visa versa... as they go well together to give a better toolkit to help the client than just trying to use them standalone.
EFT is very good by itself and you can download the manuals for free (Gary Craig is the founder and the tutorials are free on his website: Emotional Freedom Techniques, EFT Instructions, EFT Tutorials and there are other people who give free tutorials and information too e.g. EFT Universe | Achieving a fluid golf swing - EFT Universe) and give it a go yourself, though typically you would get better results from an experienced practitioner as they can discuss your issue with you and perceive the way to treat it without predjudice (and we can all admit that we have trouble admitting to our own issues in a lot of cases).
