hi my girlfriend is looking for a massage course nearby: the local college is offering this one:

"CG L2 Award in Body Massage "

the first uk qualification i did was a btec level 3 in swedish body massage and i could get insurance etc and practise ..

what does this course actually mean .. is it a precusor to a level 3 course .. or can you practise after it .. and does it allow you to do external courses afterwards .(with a third party provider). as if it dosen't it seems a waste of money if you can just do a level 3 course ...

thanks in advance i haven't really got the answers i wanted from the college. . .i went to another one which the VTCT said did the level 3 body massage and they denied all knowledge

CG is a City and Guilds course. Not sure how compatible that is with the VTCT courses, though the prospectus for the college should provide details of what it provides.

Looks like Level 2 has to be completed before going on to specialize at Level 3, in order to become a practitioner. Looks like a good course, if the participant actually completes the required hours. Can't find any information about costs - probably 'cos I'm not really looking in the right places! Have a look at their details via cityandguilds.com

yeah seems a bit stupid if your an adult and can go straight to level 3 with no prior experience .,... if you under 19 and getting a free education its ok .. but if your older its clearly a waste of £350 unless you've got money to burn and want a bit more experience before you start massaging .. i guess ill need to search for a level 3 course

Not necessarily a waste of money if you are getting a thorough grounding in therapy. I've been in the 'business' for more than 35 years, and have seen so many 'therapists' come and go I've lost count. The majority had come into the 'trade' seeing it as a way to make a fast buck and figured doing a short course was the best option - it doesn't work that way. I'm really glad I had the grounding I did over 2 years part-time training (including 3 days a month hands-on) in the days before 2 day 'diploma' courses hit the market! After completing my remedial massage and A&P training in '78 the learning really began - I also did reflexology and 17 years ago, manual lymphatic drainage - which is the only therapy I do now (I also offer Bowen, and use it where appropriate). It is always better to have a thorough knowledge, unless you just want to pamper friends and family and not make a career out of it.

In my opinion, you must go for an online massage courses. There are a number of approved websites that are offering such types of services with certification.

there are lots of different courses for massage from a couple of weeks to a couple of years depending how serious you want to get. I have found that it is an extremely tiring vocation to do full time but is a good supplementary income.
