Hi all

I'm feeling rather confused. I have read through most of the posts on here, and although my question has been touched on, I'm still not clear.
I have several feng shui books, and I think this is what has confused me, as they are slightly contradictory.

One book suggests that you put a template of the bagua over a floor plan of your house, with the bottom in alignment with the front door. Due to the fact the Chi comes in through the front door. If you are doing individual rooms, then align it with the door of the particular room that you are doing.
Other books say to align with compass points - for the whole house & individual rooms.

Am I right in thinking that it depends on how deeply into this you are? Or am I missing something?

For example, when I was deciding where to home my laughing Buddha, Looking online I mainly found the suggestion that he needed to be placed to the right of the room (from the door) & other suggestions, such as above a certain height, not on fireplaces or in kitchens or bathrooms. If feng shui is best to be based on compass points, then does it matter that he is to the right???!
This is only 1 of many queries that I have!! I know this is a very complex subject.

To cut this post short (I could go on rambling forever) & confirm, my question is: Is it best to base my plans on compass points/directions or the entrance of the house (or room)?

Thanks in advance!

Jay x

Hiya Jay
I am a novice myself and it can be quite an entanglement, can't it. I think the confusion lies in the fact that there are many different forms of feng Shui. It seems to me that the traditionalist like to place directly with the compass points. the alignment with the door of the room comes from the Black Hat sect.

I have contemplated both styles and must admit that I favour the actual compass points for aligning the energies. However, I am fortunate that my home also lies directly on the North South line, therefor not at an angle etc, and the door entrance to my front room also lies in the, North east sector I chose to use my front room only, it would still work out. My front garden its the same 🙂

In my own home I have decided to stick with the actual compass directions, I think the key is, once you have decided with method you are going to follow, then stick to it, and try not to blend the two together. That would cause confusion, and instead of the chi striking harmonious notes for you, would just sound like brass band warming up:D, and give you a headache. 😮

A laughing Buddha..IMHO
If you are using the floorplan and the door entrance is in the knowledge career or helpful people area..

He might be either happy to the left of the doorway...if he is made of stone(earth area) as a symbol of the inner journey/self cultivation.

The Right, (metal, white black or grey area)as a mentor, helpful person.(NW)

I can also ramble so i shall stop there:)

Thanks Fleur. Very helpful. I'll re-read what you've just posted, as it all takes time to sink in!! I agree that I need to find a style that fits with me & stick with it. Even though I don't currently have a compass, so cannot start, I still think that the compass points feel better. I hope to get enough replies on here, to find out which style the majority prefer. In the meantime, I think I'll go & buy a compass!

I have just read this interesting piece.

final fleurry tip from me tonight 🙂

~Jay~

If you activate the West area first, thats the children / Creativity area, the ideas will jump out at you like a netful of butterflies set free.

The rest should then follow easily....that's the way I started anyway. 😀

Still haven't had a sunny day when I've been at home to be sure where the sun is at 12noon. BUT today I had a 'aha' moment. The sky dish! They always face the same direction. I've found out from googling, they face south south east. It's no substitute to a compass, but it's a start.

My next question....I will post a new thread. I'll have a look & see if it is answered on here already.

Any other opinions on this post are still appreciated.

Hi Jay-
I think as a general rule of thumb, you can align the bagua to your floorplan as most Feng Shui books suggest. I personally practice Form school and intuitive Feng Shui and rely more on compass directions. I'm sure you'll find your prefered 'path' soon! Have fun!
