I wasn't sure under which forum to post this so I'm putting it here.
I've got ongoing issues with low self esteem and depression which regularly crop up and ambush my life.
I'd like to ask you guys out there if any of you have tried hypnotherapy and EFT and if so, did it work for you? Also, how many sessions did it take before you felt the effects [of course i know everyone is different - but just to get an idea]
I've come across someone who offers both hypnosis and EFT. So any comments on both modalities would be helpful and much appreciated.
thanks a lot XX
RE: Hypnosis / Emotional Freedom Technique - do they work.
Hi YogaJoga
This should be in the Mind Therapies forum. One of the mods will no doubt move it for you. 😉
I'm an EFT practitioner myself (still fairly new to it), but from people I've treated I can definitely say that it works.
How long it takes is a different matter. This will depend what the root causes of the issues are and how many aspects there are to tackle. Some things can be cleared up in minutes and others may take a few sessions with some homework tapping as well.
If you want to try EFT for yourself you can download the EFT manual for free from (under the Free Stuff section) which is Gary Craigs (the founders) web site, however an experienced EFT practitioner will help you to get to the root causes of the issues more quickly and be able to help you to be specific about each aspect you need to tackle.
Any more questions, just ask on the Mind Therapies forum and there's plenty of people there who can help including some who do Hypnosis.

RE: Hypnosis / Emotional Freedom Technique - do they work.
I can personally vouch for EFT working in raising confidence and self esteem. However I would add that it has to be used regularly and sometimes the changes are so subtle that you don't notice them at the time. It's may be a few weeks down the line when you suddenly realise that you are reacting differently to how you did before. Or it might be a comment from someone else who notices the change in you.
Sometimes I have been so tired that the last thing I wanted to do was tap, so you will need to find time every day (10 mins will be enough) just to tap on what ever your issues are. The thing is to be persistant and keep at it, even if it doesn't seem like it is working at the time.
On the EFT videos there is a session of a hypnotist applying EFT to a lady in a hypnotic trance and the results were very powerful. I've not tried it but it seems very interesting and I would be interested to know what you think of it should you decide to do it.
As for how many sessions you will need, discuss this with your practitioner. A good one will help you become more independent so you can do EFT on your own. I've been doing EFT for while now and I've worked with 3 different practitioners as I like to try out the different ways people apply it. I like to have a period of intense progress then plateau for a bit, then focus on it again. I now tap every day as although I've dealt with the big issues that drew me to EFT, I find it is really wonderful in dealing with all the little niggles of daily life.
When you go to your practitioner make sure you agree what success will mean to you. What would it mean to be not depressed? How would you know you were there? What would be different? It is really important to agree this up front. EFT is so powerful but subtle, that sometimes you can make huge progress but not notice it because you completely forgot the problem ever existed! If you haven't defined what you want up front, you might not realise that you are actually there.
Anyway this is a really long answer - I'd be fascinated to know what the experience of EFT under hypnosis is like.
RE: Hypnosis / Emotional Freedom Technique - do they work.
Firstly, I downloaded the basic EFT manual from Gary Craig's website and it is very good, I found the key was to work on the phrase that you repeat 3 times when you are rubbing the sore point. One step back from that was to correctly identify the root feeling that was causing the repetitive response to situations. I have done it on a very simple level but like you say, the effect of saying the positive affirmation and tapping build up over the course of weeks and I now react differently to situations.
Secondly, I am dealing with things better as indicated above. I do wish to delve deeper with hypnotherapy and feel strong enough now to do so. I know from events about a year ago, there is 'repressed stuff' from childhood that has been very deeply buried. I know that from my reactions to certain situations. What happened and how I reacted was a very, very strange 'flight' reaction and I am just about coming to terms with what could have happened to me as a child. Fortunately, I do seem to have disassociated with a lot. I don't say any of it has definitely happened, I can't be sure but I strongly suspect. I need someone really professional to help me deal with this, what qualifications and experience should I be looking for in a practitioner. I live in South East Essex - can anyone recommend?
Thanks

RE: Hypnosis / Emotional Freedom Technique - do they work.
Hi Lexi,
The main HP bit has details and qualifications of lots of good professionals.
Regarding hypnotherapy, If I had a penny for every time someone thought I could knock them over the head with a mallet and out walks a more confident person.... In my experience, it is good to deal with past issues first with EFT and then follow it up with new affirmations in hypnosis to cement those in at a deep level. The reason why I prefer this is that EFT is much faster on its own, and when you are dealing with complicated past issues, the faster you can safely go in one session, the less sessions you need and the sooner you will see improvements. This is because you can talk faster when you are not in hypnosis, just a time thing. Imho going for hypnotherapy straight away may seem attractive but if you are happy to go with what the therapist recommends for you after they have taken your initial consultation, you may be pleasantly surprised.
I hope this helps, and good luck with your search 🙂
