Hi,

I'm going to leave this to the point. If it's not enough information please, please do ask me for whatever you may want to know.

A while ago I was traumatized. I tapped to all the different aspects of the trauma for about 6 months (the flashbacks on paper consisted of about 60 pages A4 paper ) During the 6 months of tapping I reduced the symptoms by about 40%. Couldn't find the core issue. Couldn't get on with my work and life in general.

There were actually multiple traumas. I just came to realise that they all were a result of my anxiety. I get shaky, then end up getting fearful, tight and light-headed. This fear overwhelmed me making it quite scary and eventually it just suppresses itself inside. I got rid of the fear using simple EFT set-up's e.g. 'ET I have this fear because (cause) ...' and it worked. Fear gone. But using the same set-up for this light-headedness and lack of air didn't work at all.

So I EFT'ed to make it go. I ended up worsening myself because I tried to push the issue out. I wrote down my set-up phrases (luckily) but I don't remember what I said upon reversal and through out the EFT tapping rounds. Is there anyway I can recall what the issue is? Should I be trying to resolve the original trauma again hoping this will all go away?

Please give me your advice and tips. I will greatly appreciate them. I just want to be able to study and get on with life normally again. I spent my last 12 weeks EFT'ing because I COULD NOT study. Every time i tried to study i'd get tight. (I tried the simple and some complex set-up statements for recovery but they don't work) Basically anything at all which takes mental pressure I cannot do. Unlike before where I could think clearly and coherently.

I will be so grateful for your advice and some set-up statements to just help me recover and recall some of memories which will lead me to the underlying issues. Or even alternative therapies I should look into. I've been thinking that perhaps Acupuncture is the solution here since that doesn't require me to know a cause but I don't know about its effectiveness.

Thanks. (Sorry I couldn't make it shorter)

Hi MrEnergetic

A while ago I was traumatized. I tapped to all the different aspects of the trauma for about 6 months (the flashbacks on paper consisted of about 60 pages A4 paper ) During the 6 months of tapping I reduced the symptoms by about 40%. Did you try looking inside for the core issue? A core issue always revolves around self.

No, there were multiple experiences which you did not understand how to internalise, your anxiety is a symptom of the underlying cause, not the cause, you caused the anxiety and fear to become an aspect of your life experience, you need to embrace self not fight self.

What part of self were you attempting to reject and how do you think you can accomplish this through inner division? rather than through self acceptance in an open and nonjudgmental way which leads to inner harmony and wholeness.

Please give me your advice and tips. I will greatly appreciate them. I just want to be able to study and get on with life normally again. I spent my last 12 weeks EFT'ing because I COULD NOT study. Sop fighting, you are using EFT like a battering ram, it is not helping, you have come to a stale mate, it is time to change tack and head for calmer waters.

I will be so grateful for your advice and some set-up statements to just help me recover and recall some of memories which will lead me to the underlying issues. Or even alternative therapies I should look into. You are the underlying cause, start by embracing that fact, be prepared to take responsibility for everything that is happening within yourself and embrace it, do not fight it, accept all aspects of self, once you own the problem, you can then change it.

Hi Mrenergetic
You have had some result, focus on that. rather than this core issue. Look at the ground you have covered, not still how far to go. That bogs you down.
couple of things about working on yourself
1.When you process, analyze, work on there is always more to do.
2 All internal work, self development, healing is a surbtle fight-very subtle. The underpinning idea is I am not happy with it until it is released, I want it gone. I can't get on until I am over it. I don't like it, I like that etc etc what you resist persists. It is quite simple.
3. All therapies/healings take you to your saturation point within . Where you are done with all that you were doing. A higher order wants to enter your life.

Relax, relax again. Stay loose and natural. if you can stay at peace with whatever is happening, it normally loses its grip on you. It came on its own volition-whats it got to do with you? If you stay wide open, making way for it to pass it will pass. The issues are not gripping you- you are also sitting all clenched up holding onto them. Relax. When you relax the necessary help arrives too

Take a minute to breathe. You are you. You are not your issues. You are you with or without issues. Allow youself to breathe.
It will be alright. It is alright. Just stand down for a second and see

Hi MrEnergetic,

Sometimes when the issues are overwhelming, or where are multiple traumas, it can be too much to tap on specific memories (and sometimes these memories are not available to our consious mind).

If you would like to continue working with EFT, I suggest to try and work with the metaphor rather than specific memories. I know in the EFT community there is generally a big emphasis on "finding the core issues" - but for some people and in some circumstances it may not be appropriate or useful.

I strogly suggest to listen to the audio by Jess Mor Presenters at the 2012 EFT Gathering in York (scroll down the page to her presentation - link to audio is underneath her photo) or read the transcript of her presentation here (there is additional material at the end of transcript too) at the last year's EFT Gathering in Ilkley - Jess is an astounding example of human resilience, strength and creativity and demonstrates how one can work with severe trauma and dissociation with EFT indirectly, without going through specific memories, mostly through metaphor. She will be presenting at this year's Gathering at the end of January in York - both a short conference presentation and a whole-day pre-conference workshop The Courage to Be Present (I am gutted that I won't be able to be there on Friday).

You may also find the following safety tips helpful - these are mostly for EFT therapists working with clients, but some of it will be relevant for self-help.

Good luck

Masha

Hi
you have obviously tried very very hard to heal yourself and reduce the anxiety feelings
have you been working alone?
even the most expereinced tappers sometimes need the support and guidance of a therapist or tapping collegue.
you say you cant remember some of the things you say, I suspect that this is a form of protection, if you are working with someone else you wouldnt have to worry about remembering things as their job is to do that for you and then guide the session.

our unconcious mind is very clever at tripping us up and sabotaging ourselves
even if our conscious mind is saying we want to feel differently our unconcious mind may feel it is safer for us to stay where we are
you say you cannot study and the anxiety builds when you try, maybe ask yourself what studying means for you, and if you study what would happen? what is the downside of studying?? what is the upside of not studying??

a very useful tapping technique that I have found works very well for trauma with many facets is "picture tapping technique"

phoenix EFT developed this method, google them and then click on the information button at the top of the home page and the drop down link will show a button for picture tapping.

hope this helps

Some very helpful replies here. I was going to add that for trauma it is almost essential to work with a therapist, as samreflex said.

The other method I have found helps is which is a different way of getting rid of feelings held in the body. It works very well alternated with EFT.

Certainly worth a try.

Thanks for your input

Thanks for all of your advice.

I'll be reading those transcripts in more detail soon.

I wish I could afford the help of an EFT practitioner! I wish the NHS would employ them so that I could just get some help sooner.

I wish I could afford the help of an EFT practitioner! I wish the NHS would employ them so that I could just get some help sooner.

Some NHS departments do allow the use of EFT, e.g. Forth Valley Behavioural Psychology service in Scotland, Derbyshire Health Psychology service, and many practitioners work "under cover" in other places (some of my students are CBT psychotherapists who incorporate EFT into their work unofficially, without consent of the management, because they know how effective it is in clinical practice, regardless of what NICE guidelines may say).

I am hopeful that the situation will gradually improve as more research is being carry out and more practitioners and lay people spread the word.
