Hi

I did some case studies last night and was a little concerned to see powdery residue through the otoscope in both ears after the treatment. I was using the Biosun original candles and opened them up afterwards to see if it was possible for powder to fall through the filter which clearly it was. Is this something to be concerned about? The powder was not something I could have cleaned out easily although I did do a gentle wipe around with a cotton bud as taught by my tutor. Will this residue cause any blockages in the ear?

thanks!
abi

In a word, no, it's perfectly normal to see this. You have done right by just wiping around with a cotton bud x

I would dispute sticking a cotton bud in the eat tho'.

Have you ever heard the saying....never stick anything smaller in your ear than your elbow? (i.e. the fact that this is physcally impossible)

The residue should be left (I was taught) as the candle contents such as camomile, St Johns wort are used for their healing properties. So why remove any?

Agree with Patchouli and was taught that whatever powder residue that was left in the ear would be absorbed into the ear. Any residue will not cause blockage to the ears.

Also, you don;t need to stick anything into the ear, there is no need. Use some dampened cotton wool as you would with little baby to clean around the ears.

Just to clarify, I don't stick a cotton bud right in the ear (it hurts lol), I just wipe off the residue that is around the entrance to the ear, with a long stemmed cotton bud, that's how I was taught by Salon Systems x

you nearly always have yellow residue left in the ear.
I never clean around the ear, its active ingredients.

Agree with all these posts re the powdery residue. I personally wouldn't remove the residual powder in the outer ear - it will disperse on it's own and as already mentioned is an active ingredient so will help soften the skin in the area.

The powder residue is a vital part of the therapy - this should have been covered on your course. Never attempt to remove it.

We were taught to remove any residue she didn't explain why, but seeing as you have said about healing properties I will start to leave it, thanks for clarifying this Patchouli, very interesting read x
