I wondered, when doing ear candling treatments, do you use:
[LIST=1]

  • both a flannel to protect the client's face/hair during the treatment, and one of those disks that goes round the candle to catch any falling ash?
  • just the flannel?
  • just the disc?
  • neither?
  • There seems to be different views among tutors and in relevant books. I have looked back over past threads but not found an answer that covers both these forms of protection.

    If you do use a flannel/cloth, do you have this between the client and your hands (i.e. so you're not directly touching the skin/hair), or on top of your hands?

    Thanks a lot

    4. Neither.

    Why... because if you're using good candles there shouldn't be a need.
    I can't see that the flannel would actually do anything beneficial, and the candles that come with disks are not often regarded as the "good quality" ones.

    If, rather than holding the candle by fingertips (which I know some people do and I find that they can't hold it steady, which isn't good for the client) you hold the candle right down between your forefinger and middle finger with your hand out flat, then the hand serves the same purpose as the disk, should you get any falling ash (and if you spot it falling you can blow gently to get it away from the client without disrupting the treatment anyway, as it falls so gently).

    If you use your hand like that too, and you're a reiki practitioner, the client can receive reiki at the same time (with their permission of course). 😉
