Hi there,

I have had a really stuffy nose/blocked sinuses for over a month now. I have had some sinus problems in the past but think it has worsened after a recent bad cold. I am also 15 weeks pregnant and have read that nasal congestion is one of the symptoms.
I have tried all sorts including saline spray, steam inhalations with essential oils and medicated spray prescribed by my doctor and these things only provide temporary relief. It's really driving me crazy now and giving me headaches.
I would like to know if ear candling is a really good option for me to try, how long the effects usually last and if more than one session is normally needed. The problem is that I live abroad and can't find anyone here that does it. I will be in england soon for a week and was thinking of booking in for a session but won't be able to continue with treatments.
Any advice appreciated, Thankyou:)

Rhinitis can be a problem of pregnancy - I personally had a constant sniffle during both my pregnancies.
Hopi ear candles should help with sinus congestion, relieving pressure build up. But it won't stop the mucous production. Plan on at least 2 or 3 sessions, a week or so apart for decent results, though you might well have some improvement after just one session.
Have you heard that "milk makes mucous"? - I didn't know this til well after my pregnancies but in recent years have cut out milk and its derivatives and notice the difference - less snuffley, less sinus congestion etc

Thanks for your reply. I think I will give the ear candling a try. Yes, I have read that milk ismucous producing and I'm trying to cut down a little, although it's abit difficult at the moment as I'm veggie and pregnant!
Thank you again x

Hi

Yes, Hopi Ear Candling would be fine, ensure the therapist does not use aromatherpy type candles. if so find out which oils they are impregnated with.

Where abouts are you in the country?

Take care.

Thanks Pindy. I live in Cyprus but I'm going back to the Uk and will be staying with my parents in Norfolk for just over a week.
I was hoping to find a therapist there through the yellow pages when I get back as I don't really know of any in the area.

Hi,
I wonder if you have thought about trying Jala neti? There are lots of sites online where you can buy a neti pot, and as it is a natural way to cleanse the nasal cavity I think it would be okay to use during pregnancy. A while ago I nearly purchased one as I had read lots of good reviews about them, having said that I didn't get one in the end! as I eased my sinus pain with massage (which I also found on the internet, what would we do without it)? Anyway, maybe a neti pot would be good for you, just a thought.
Hope you find some relief soon.

Hi, thanks very much. I have never heard of a neti pot but it sounds good and I am going to have a look on the web now.
Has anyone else tried one of these?
Thanks again x

Hello, and can i ask mrsbeansprout to do me a huge favour and post a link to the site she obtained her sinus massage from?

My daughter is suffering really badly with sinusitis, so we're back into the steam inhalation, ear candling, etc again. I've also ordered a neti-pot plus a host of supplements. The massage souds great as a pain reliever instead of continuing on the co-codamol and ibuprofen route.

best wishes,
Janice
