Apologies in advance for the long story but I feel it's relevant. WhenI was younger I collected crystals but I was told to cleanse them in salt water and half of them got ruined and I gradually fell out of love with them and have no idea what happened to them. I recently had a dream that I found them again in my dead grandma's bedroom so I have decided to reconnect with them and was excited about getting all the ones I used to have as a child all except carnelian. For some reason I didn't want that one, however after purchasing a book on crystals it came with some free stones including a carnelian. I have tried to cleanse it in earth and salt and used the sound technique on a selenite slab but I still feel negatively about it, like I really don't want it in my house. It's funny because the more I read up on it the more I think it would be a good crystal for me - should I trust my intuition or tell myself to stop being so paranoid and persevere with it?
Why not just give it away? What is the point of persevering if you don't want to?
Isn't salt water a bit over the top? Why did they need 'cleansing' anyway?
I know what you mean I feel that way with amethyst although I have it in the house It doesn't settle me like people say so I never carry it with me anymore. maybe just get another orange crystal or red, if you feel the same about red or orange carnelian. Trust yourself anyway if you are not drawn to it then theres nothing wrong with not using it.
I never use salt water, a drop of lavender essential oil in water is safe for harder crystals. I either put them in a plant pot for a few days or on my window sill depending on how fragile the crystal is or if i can be bothered i will use sage or another incense stick and cleanse one by one sometimes its theraputic. 🙂 I know some people never cleanse so i guess it's a matter of personal choice.
I think most crystals should be cleansed if used for healing as some hold negative energy. but there are some crystals I don't cleanse for ages so just go with what you feel, you can't go wrong

The salt will have damaged the more friable crystals as it is hygroscopic and will have got into every tiny fissure. Please don't use salt if you want your crystals to survive intact. It is not necessary. Of course sea water is slightly different and can benefit some crystals.
Carnelian is a very feminine womanly stone. Perhaps you don't need that energy right now?
Carnelian is a very feminine womanly stone.
What exactly, does this mean?
Thanks for your replies I decided to give it away in the end.
Cascara your comment about it being a feminine stone is interesting as I am quite a tomboy!

There ya go then see, you just don't mix with Carnelian, maybe try Hematite instead?
I find some crystals too overpowering to wear all the time
Yes some feel much heavier round the neck than their true weight, others that are really heavy feel light as air, all to do with the energies 🙂

The crystal is not a problem. The problem is you have real emotions and thought connecting this stone and apperently they are negative and so you do not need them. You need to express the feelings and thoughts. But how? You can all kinds of things, moving, writting, drawing, singing. What is the goal? To fully reconnect with the feelings you have and to UNDERSTAND why. You need to find out what is the situation behind this feelings and thoughts you have. It may be from this life or another, it may be a small thing or a big thing. Its very clear you were lead to this threw your dreams and threw buying the book and the TIME IS RIGHT for you to reconnect with the problem and RELEASE IT.
How to do it? I would suggest you draw. Take the stone infront of you, make some time for yourself in peace and draw your feelings. Do not think, just draw whatever it comes to you. Draw yourself the story you have forgotten, so you will be able to remember.
Than the next day anaylse the drawing.
Love and light,
White Fairy
I think you should listen to your intuition. There is a reason you are adverse to the stone. Maybe it is that single stone in particular, or maybe it is all carnelian stones. In my opinion, if it is the latter, then you might have a deep rooted issue that the stone knows you need to resolve but your body refuses/mind to listen to it. I think a lot of introspection and understanding why you feel this way about the carnelian is important. Reason being that carnelian is a cleansing stone and it is trying to cleanse something from you that you may have not noticed yet.
Good luck on your journey and I hope everything turns out well for you 🙂
