Hi all,
Have just enrolled to do my level 4 advanced diploma at Preston. Am feeling very excited and looking forward to the course very much.
I have a couple of concerns mainly about the supervision and counselling session s that I have to fund, do you think it will is normal practise for your placement to provide for your supervision?
Has anyone any good recomendations of good agency or NHS placements in and around Mersyside
Now that I ve signed up am feeling a bit panicky
I know my tutor will have a list but its all out of my area
Many thanks xxx
Hi Orchid
Congratulations on getting a place on the course, and hope once you get stuck in the initial panic will subside (only to be replaced by the rollercoaster that accompanies writing assignments - 😉 only teasing, as by that point, you have the support of your peers, invaluable when doing a counselling course.
To the best of my knowledge, it's usually the expectation that you pay for your own personal counselling and supervision. If you do a Yell search online, you should find the local independent counselling agencies in your local area, and these can be a good source of placements, as they rely on a level of student involvement to run services. The local agency to me offered group supervision, and this was really useful, but still had an expectation that personal counselling and supervision costs would be met by us.
A colleague of mine found an NHS placement, within a Community Mental Health Team. This was a while ago, so not sure how accessible this would be now, but it may be worth looking on your local MH trust website to see if you can find any contacts from either a CMHT or psychological services.
Another good part of call is your local council for voluntary services, as they may have a directory or similar of local voluntary agencies offering counselling - these are often aimed at particular groups (young people, those who have experienced bereavement etc) and again, could be a good source for placement
Finally, give the national volunteering database 'do-it' a try, and have a search under counselling.
Best of luck with it all, and enjoy
El
