hi i wonder if any one can help, i am on level 3 counselling and i hope to progress onto level 4 in the autumn. only trouble is, i have been doing a night time course and would like to continue with that on level 4.

my college only does a daytime one, so does anybody know if there is a home study course for this, and was it ok. i have got a placement for level 4 so i will get my skills practice by doing this.

i watch my grandchildren through the day so it impossible to do a daytime course, my tutor said maybe i could leave level 4 for a couple of years till my grandchildren are at school, but i dont want to wait that long, i am 49 this year and i want to get into work again.

Hiya Crystal Rose,

I think you'll struggle to find a home study course which will match the qualification gained by doing the foundation degree !! I'm hoping, like you, to continue on in September with the Level 4 .... up at New College the timings are Monday 1pm - 7pm (strange timings i know !) I don't know what they've planned at Bishop, but couldn't other arrangements be made for the children just for one day a week ???

It seems a shame for you to have come so far .... to get stuck again !! My advice lovely ..... put yourself first for a change .... it's only one day a week !!! Or even apply at New College .... then cover for the kids would only apply to half a day !!

Hiya CR

Have a look around on the net, you may find a few homestudy courses in counselling.

I found this one, not sure if it is the one you are after though.

Home study courses can be expensive though and you have to pay for them out of your own pocket. I have yet to find one that allows consessions for unemplyed or low income familys.

On a good side though, the one above does allow you to pay in monthy instalments, so I guesss it isn't too bad.

Have you thought about getting the children enrolled into the college nursery for one day a week. As a student there, you will get a discount and the facillities are very good.

hi thanks for the replies, i have been checking up on open universety to see if they can offer what i am looking for but i have not seen much of anything. i know a few others in the class are wanting to do the course on an evening, so maybe we need to vist student surport to see if the college can do anything, as for looking after the granchildren i feel that if you make a commitment to looking after granchildren i believe you should stick to it, these early years are important and you never get that back.i feel very priviliged to get this chance to bond with them and i hope that all my skills will make me into a good counsellor. so back to the drawing board and talk to some of the others in the class.
