Hello,

I'd like an advice from professional counsellors or psychotherapists regarding setting up a counselling service in schools.
How do you charge AND how much do you charge for services in schools?
Is it per day, per hour etc? I work with children and their families and give help to the teachers and TAs, meetings etc.

This is all on self-employed basis. I bought all the necessary equipment for play therapy etc. and of course paying for my own supervision. I work in one school once a week but also attend meetings on other days where appropriate.

Thank you.

Are you in the UK? The counsellor who works through our local school is employed by the local council social work department. She visits several schools on rotation.

Have you approached school secretaries or governor board members, and given them proposals? I would leave discussion of payment to the last minute, so that you can negotiate - unless they advertise a post with a quoted salary.

Schools often have little money to pay for such services. I have been asked by schools about prices for my services and so far no takers even at 40.00 per hour to teach a qigong class. So good luck with this. I suspect it is much easier if you are employed by the local authority.
