Hi megaone

I'm taking an online distance learning CBT course, purely for interest, from . It's not very expensive, and I find it more informative than books I've read on the subject. After completing the course you won't be able to practise as a CBT practitioner, but if, like me, you just want an understanding of the subject then that might be something to consider.

I'm afraid that I have no advice or recommendations for counselling courses which lead to credible professional qualifications, but if you are just wanting a taster course I can recommend the above folk's CBT course.

Hi Megaone

I think some basic counselling skills are a good idea for therapists and I guess it is a personal preference how far you want to take those skills. The new college year is just starting so if it is basic course you are looking for you may still be able to get a place on one of the Introduction to counselling courses. They usually last about 10 weeks and it might give you an idea if you wanted to take a more advanced course without too much of a financial lay-out.

Hi Megaone - if that last question is addressed to me then you can find a list of all the SNHS courses . I am quite impressed by it - it's well-written by someone who practises in the field. I looked up the course author and found her website and her background. She comes from academia (and it shows) and has moved into life coaching, hypnotherapy and NLP.

SNHS have special offers (which is what I've done) whereby you can take lots of courses for a fraction of the full cost. But before you sign up for lots of courses do remember that most credible insurers will not recognise these courses. SNHS will give you a good first level knowledge of subjects, but you'll not be able to practise as a registered counsellor.

Short course

Hello. There are so many courses out there so i guess it depends on what you wish to do with the qualification. It sounds to me like you just want something like a basic counselling course to complement your reiki work. Have a read here if you are considering more than just a short course.Therapy Today - The Online Magazine for Counsellors and Psychotherapists. I am currently considering a course with these guys Counselling Courses, Psychotherapy & Anger Management Training as I am a teaching assistant and i think it may be beneficial to my work, and then if I like it I will do further courses and maybe consider a full time career in it!
