I would like to do a counselling course (evening/weekend) which will enable me to become a professional counsellor. Can someone advise me where I can follow a course and which diploma I need in order to become a professional in this area?
Thank you,

RE: Counselling Courses
hi there nathalienoach and a very warm welcome to HP [sm=wave.gif]
as far as i'm aware, there are 3 steps to a 'traditional' counselling career. the first is a L2 basic skills in counselling course ( equivalent to GCSE level and approx 3 months long), then L3 counselling skills course ( approx 9 months at A level but i wouldn't say it is!), and finally a 2 year diploma which is the qualification that allows people to call themselves counsellors.
Alternatively, have a look on [link= http://www.bacp.com ]www.bacp.com[/link] if you are based in the UK.

[sm=hug.gif]Hello Nathalienoach,
Where you live depends on where you can do your counselling training, many places do them including your local college, you will start off doing the basic counselling, then if you go on the fast track the certificate then diploma that is 2 years,
i started on the basic, then the intermediate, then the certificate, then diploma.im nearing the end of my first year i qualify next year.
if you go into your local library they will have a college prospectus there which shows you where all courses are held and the cost involved.
take care

RE: Counselling Courses
Hiya Everyone
Just would like to tell you about a brilliant Counselling Book I brought last week. I have many books on Counselling, but this one by far is one of my favourites.
It's called [link= http://www.amazon.co.uk/Counselling-Skills-Theory-Margaret-Hough/dp/0340927011/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/026-9291200-4436460?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1177419253&sr=8-1 ]Counselling Skills & Theory by Margaret Hough[/link].
Really is very good and covers all levels of counselling.
