Hello
Am off work with stress and depression. Have had counselling in the past, but delving into the past just made it worse and it cost me £20pw!!
I need support for the future. I'm feeling rather lost. I know a big part of my stress and anxiety would be relieved if i had a cat, or better still a dog that i HAD to take for walks. But i live in a small rented flat. It wouldn't be fair to any critter as it would be either a caged rodent, or a cat/dog that could escape if a workman came into fix something. I've looked in EAT (Equine Assisted Therapy) but there doesn't seem to be anything like this in my area. I love horses, all animals in fact. I don't know what else to try. I'm in West Yorkshire (Leeds area) if anyone has a dog that needs walking?!?!?! I need a reason to get up in the morning, if anyone knows of anything or anyone that may be able to help me i'd be so very grateful.
ETA: just wanted to explain that i have 2 goldfish which i look after very well. I've tried volunteering for a horse sanctuary; they were blatantly rude, ignorant and didn't want me. Volunteered at an RDA stables, was good for a while, learnt a lot, but felt used and got at. Just recently tried to vol. at an animal shelter desperate for help....turns out it's too far away. I'm banging my head against a brick wall, i'm just trying so hard to find a way to help myself.
Thankyou all in advance
Blessings

Well I think its a great idea to offer help to people. What about contacting age concern as many elderly people have pets they are unable to exercise properly? Just a thought and I hope it helps.
I live near Leeds too and I was so down last year as lost a baby etc.... Som I got a puppy and I have never turned back, we now go for a jog most mornings or a long walk in the afternoon, I love her dearly and she loves me unconditionally back! Highly recommend it. Could you rent a one bedroom house instead so you could get a dog as it sounds like you'd be great for any dog! x
thankyou so much angelcakes! yes i'm hoping that we will move into a rented house but can't until my OH's loan is paid off and so we can't think about it until late next year 🙁 But contacting age concern is a good idea. I had thought about going into the local neighbourhood elderly action group and asking there too. Maybe when i'm feelin a bit stronger, but i appreciate your reply. I'm so glad your pup has been so wonderful for you. I know Harrogate well, lots of nice walks!
thanks again
