I just wanted to post this warning about colonics. I have been having regular colonics for about 3 years now (about every 2 to 3 months), due to suffering from constipation. For the past few months I have been passing blood from my rectum and have now been diagnosed with ulcerative colitis. My Consultant said that it was most probably due to the colonics and that under no circumstances should I ever have any more treatments. There is no cure for my condition, and I will now be on medication for the rest of my life. I just thought I would share this with you guys in case you are thinking of having colonics.

Did your consultant investigate the long term constipation before you started on the colonic regime? Not sure the blame can lie solely with the colonics.

Hi,

Yes, I had a thorough consultation prior to treatment; I am not blaming the Therapist, but felt that I would highlight the dangers.

RE: Warning about Colonics

Hi,

I am a Colon Hydrotherapist and to my knowledge I have never heard of colonics as
a cause for ulcerative colitis.
Here is a website that might be of some interest to you.

I ask people to please do their own research into what might be the cause of their health
issues. Sometimes its easy to place blame on situations we don't understand.

I'm sorry to hear about your condition and wish you health and vitality.

RE: Warning about Colonics

Hi,
interesting that the consultant should suggest this link.....I've never had colonics, however my husband had ulcerative colitis....I say had....he didn't have a miracle cure as such, just has no colon anymore!;)

His brother also has it and their mum has crohns, so its hereditary...........made worse by stress! I know there has also been a link to childhood vaccinations and the development of it.....so although colonics could theroretically have had an effect.....there are soooooo many other things could have come into play.............you did say you had constipation before you ever started the colonics.... was this looked into beforehand?

There are also studies that show nicotene patches have been used to help in flare ups( an ex work colleague told her consultant about this when I mentioned it and sure enough other consultants in the field were using this treatment....and it was working....).............. strange but true!

Also at the other end of the scale have you looked at the emotional links to the conditions before and now?

hope you're keeping well,
Lisa x
