Just found out a year or so ago that i have moderate scoliosis. I found that my left leg was weaker and developed a limp. Since then I've had a few different chiro's and I currently get ultrasound therapy. the doctors all say they dont think its congenital but due to some reason for imbalance.

I injured my left knee in 94, had it scoped in 98. in early 94 i took a helmet to the left ankle. My foot doctor just now said that he noticed a big spur or whatnot..on my left angle. I've always noticed it but never payed any attention just thinking it was an anomoly...but it is the size of a nickle and keeps my left foot from flexing back towards my shin a few degrees. not as flexible as the right one...my left hip is tight and my left hamstring is super tight. luckily my job usually allows for time to stretch when i want, though I'm on flat floors with steel toes all day! My left foot's arch could use a bit of help as well. A thorough stretch makes me feel 18 again and my limp is almost gone. but this is temporary. There is no pain unless i go up the steps too fast or come down and step wrong...this happens about once a month where i just hit thi s certain spot and get a good pain from my knee. I know i have some scoli in my lower back and it pinches that nerve that goes down to my leg...the schiatic one I guess. and then my spine tries to correct back to the opposite side up near my thoracic area. So how does one know if the scliosis is caused by the knee or foot area, or if one of them is the result of the scoliosis? Any particular stretches or exercises? I do a bit of yoga and taichi that helps but just wondering if theirs any thing specific. And what are the chances of this turning into a degenerative spine? I'm also wonderin if somethinglike scoliosis can effect erections since I seem to not have the most sesitive of organs anymore....though my orgasms are greater.

Any comments or help will be appreciated.

RE: Scoliosis

It sounds like you have a weakness in your leg which has caused the lack of balance leading to scoliosis. If you were my client I would get you along to a sports physio and/or a Pilates studio and on to the Reformer machines to strengthen the weaknesses and the scoliosis would very likely go. In the meantime off come the shoes and point and flex through the feet, rotate the ankles, and balance on the balls of the feet to strengthen the arches. In standing lift your arches, draw up your kneecap. Loads of exercises - you need to be supervised. The torsion will have affected your fascial network (your internal skin of connective tissue) hence the alterations you've noticed in your pelvic floor - there may also have been repercussions in your other systems - circulatory, and the nerve network.

Best of luck,
Sharon
