I have read that chiropactic is supposed to be the most useful comp therapy for cluster headaches. Has anyone any experience of treating them?
RE: Any success with cluster headaches
Hi Angelfish,
I suffer from migraines and headaches, and have chiropractic treatment which has helped greatly. The first session can be a bit scary (not a great fan of the neck clicking!) but it definitely has hleped to decrease the frequency of my attacks.

RE: Any success with cluster headaches
I've just picked up this thread, quite accidentally really....Anyway, I treated a client with cluster headaches in March/April, using reflexology. She only had one headache in the week after the first session (from 3-5 per day), and none in the week after the second session. She had previously been using oxygen to relieve the pain, as she was breast feeding & couldn't take any meds.
It is possible that this was the end of her first bout of this, but I checked after one month & she had no further problem. I'm confident that she would use reflexology again should the headaches recur.
Hope this helps.

angelfish,
I am a massage therapist... I would suggest muscle release in combination with skeletal release. Pain referral patterns for cluster headaches tend to sit in the area above the ears// side of the head. I would suggest massaging the SCM muscle. release the neck muscles (scalenes) and upper cervical muscles...
I am a chiropractic client as well.. but bones will not release unless muscles release first.. then the headaches will improve..
happy rubbing..

but bones will not release unless muscles release first
hi klowe
in reading your comment, i replaced the word bone with joint... i'm sure in many cases where the joint is restricted as a result of muscle spasm or imbalance, then this holds true. but i'm sceptical about this comment being used in such general terms. i'm a massage therapist too and i've never done a spinal manipulation. but from my reading i understand that releasing a locked facet in the cervical vertebra more often than not results in a release in the associated muscles. i am happy to be corrected... it just didn't sit right with me.

RE: Any success with cluster headaches
Cluster headaches are a vascular condition and although similar to migraine the cause is not the same, as the blood vessel walls do not constrict. I am also a massage therapist and when I have the problem I wouldn't let anyone near me, in fact massage has aggravated the condition as it causes more blood to be pumped into the eye.
Thanks for the interesting ideas, fortunately the headaches have gone, I just hope they don't return too soon.
