Helo! 🙂

I've been trawling through the web today, looking at the various options for training as a Bowen therapist. I've been looking into it for a couple of years, but haven't got round to doing anything about it!

I sawa Bowen therapist giving a lecture and a demonstrationtreatment about2 years ago, and that 'sparked' an interest in the therapy, it seems to be such a gentle treatment.

Anyway, back to the reason why I posted!
I came acrossa website for The Bowen School for health professionals, and wondered whether anyone had trained with them?
They are dedicated to training physiotherapists, osteopaths, chiropractors, Doctors and Nurses, etc.

If anyone has trained with them, I would appreciate anycomments about your experience.
Many thanks!

Sorry, I meant to put the web page in!

Hello and welcome to HP 🙂

It would be very helpful if you could post a link to the website for this school, so other members can take a look. You can use your Edit button to add it to your post if you like.

Hi Mwncibach... I'm so pleased you've chosen to learn Bowen - I practise it myself and it's a wonderful treatment. I don't know anything about the school you mention, I'm afraid, but as you're looking generally too, I would recommend the Bowen School I learned with.

I'm vague about the background details, so forgive me if I've got this a bit wrong... As I remember it, there are about 4 types of Bowen, learned from Tom Bowen during his life'sprolific therapy work in Australia. He only had about 4 students learn from him during his time, and each went off and created training. They're slightly different as he honed his technique until the end.The one I learned with is called 'advanced Bowen' because it comes from his last student, and thus his technique was more advanced... but I believe there is some controversy surrounding this label, as you can imagine 🙂

Anyway, I've had Bowen from therapists trained by other schools and have to say that this one has many more moves and has a more profound and quicker effect...

Anyway, you can reach it at [link= http://www.nsthealth.com/t_bas.html ]http://www.nsthealth.com/t_bas.html[/link]
NST stands for Neuro Structural Intergration technique - Advanced Bowen. I've had amazing results with my clients and myself! Looking at their schedule on the website, the next UK course is in June in Reading with the same tutor I learned from... there's one running currently in York, but you've missed the start. It costs about £500 and takes 5 very intensive days! You need to know Anatomy & Physiology already and be a practising body work therapist.

Good luck... happy to answer any questions, as I'm sure they would be!

Hi Mwncibach

I wonder if you are based in Wales? With a name like mwncibach, you've got to have Welsh connections ??

I am based in South West Wales and hve been practising Bowen for three years.

I learnt with BowTech, who were very thorough and I felt that I learnt the basics quickly and confidently. Bowen is an excellent modality to use and to have done to you.

If you have any specific questions about training then p.m. me and I will try to answer them.

Best wishes
I'm sure you'll enjoy learning and using whichever Bowen training you decide on - the variations are growing annually!

Best wishes

JJ

Good Morning

I am starting the course in Bowen Technique with the European College of Bowen Studies in June and really looking forward to it. If you check out their website, they have courses all over. Although, none near me as it's either in Dutch or French which I am both terrible at and hence the reason I am flying back to Edinburgh to do it.

here is the link

Happy hunting!

Hi
Thanks for your posts
I have looked at the schools you all mentioned, and it's left me even more confused! Is doing the 'full' course more advantageous than doing the course aimed at already practicing therapists?
Anyway, I have emailed the NST and have recieved a booking form, so at least I know they have places available for the course in June.
I have attempted to contact the Bowen school for health profes. but have yet to recieve a reply, they have courses starting at the beginning and end of June.

I'm also hoping to book a session with someone locally, so that I can finally experience what everyone is raving about!
I hope I'll be able to do one of these courses soon, because for some reason it's on my mind a lot and seems to be drawing me to it - very strange!
Thanks again for your help:)

Looks like the course you are describing (for health professionals) is 'shorter' as it is catering for fully qualified medics/osteopaths etc - their knowledge of A&P should (I wish it were always the case!) be extensive. It doesn't appear to cater for complementary or alternative therapists.

RE: The Bowen School For Health Professionals

I did the NST course with the following qualifications: ITEC A&P, ITEC holistic massage, VTCT A&P and I'd just qualified in VTCT Sports Massage Therapy. Other students:
- a kinesiologist
- a reflexologist
- a physiotherapist
- a swedish masseuse

So they'd all done body work of some kind, but a mixture of complementary and alternative and to very different levels of A&P knowledge.

Before learning the moves on a specific body part, the course covers in detailthe muscles, boney landmarks and where necessary nerves, which is what you need to learn. It didn't go into the other A&P systems in detail. It didn't go into things like professional conduct, the legal aspects of working as a bodywork consultant, etc, as being a practitioner of somethingis a pre-requisite, so this is assumed knowledge.

I would highlyrecommend the NST approach, and as I've said before, I've had amazing results from my clients... and myself!

best regards
kate
