Hi, i'm a qualified reflexologist and i'm considering training in the Bowen Technique so i'd be interested to hear from any Bowen practitioners about how difficult the course is and particularly if there are any practitioners who have also studied reflexology - how do the 2 therapies compare to each other in relation to learning? I suppose I am worried about it being over my head. Thank you.

I'll be starting reflexology in October rather than going straight into learning Bowen. Part of the reason is that I think Bowen is a less known therapy than reflexology. My friend is a Bowen therapist and I've been through it's treatment and know its benefits. My interest is to know how it can compliment reflexology and also how well is it known to the general public.

I don't think it is very well known at all, nobody I mention it to has ever heard of it, however that could be a good thing - my area is inundated with reflexologists but not Bowen practitioners. I think it is quite complimentary in the sense that if you have a client that has a particular problem e.g. frozen shoulder that you feel may benefit more from Bowen rather than reflex you could suggest the next time they come they try Bowen. I have had the treatment done myself and found it very helpful for RSI, something regular reflexology wasn't helping. I do know that you are not able to receive any other type of therapy 7 days before or after Bowen so in that sense it wouldn't compliment if you were thinking of doing a bit of both therapies at the same time. Hello. It is not difficult to train in Bowen. Look at This is Advanced Bowen (Neuro Structural Integration Technique) and I learned this and have had amazing results with it with my clients.

Because you already are working in therapy and have done A&P, it takes 5 days intensive for the first level, which is enough to get insurance and start practising.

Hope that helps.

training in bowen

Hi there

I am not trained in any other complementary therapies [but have Anatomy & Physiology through being an Occupational Therapist]

Many of the people I trained with were also reflexologist and seemed to get on really well. Some of them also use reflexology as a means of assessment prior to using Bowen and they find this gives them more information about what Bowen moves may be needed.

Not everyone believes that Bowen cannot be mixed with other modalities in the same treatment. It just does not seem to be favoured by the training associations.

I am also learning a new technique called Emmett Technique, which works extremely well with Bowen and with many other modalities. see Ross Emmett australia for more details.

Best of luck
JJ
