Hi guys

I need your expect advice.......:)

I have had a clicky jaw for 7/8 years now and it`s driving me crazy, I have had 2 treatment so far and it doesn`t feel any different... is this normal?
My jaw clicks on the right side and sometimes has a problem opening in the morning and constantly clicking through out the day.....:(

The therapist is working on the body and a couple of minutes on the neck and jaw...is that enough...? she has been qualified for a few months and not sure if she is experianced in this feild as i`m the first client with this problem.....not knocking her, as she`s very professional, but I don`t want to be flushing money down the drain if she`s not working on the right part!!! know what I mean?

Not sure what to do?

Thanks

LX

Hi LX,

Working a few minutes, going out of the room, coming back, etc. That's very OK. The work on the jaw is only a few minutes.
Did the therapist tell you to to get up and walk evry 30 min. the day of treatment? Also getting of the couch with two feet on the ground at the same time?

If after the third treatment nothing ha schanged, then review the strategy with her.

Let us know how you get on,

Artemis

[sm=nature-smiley-008.gif]How did you get on in the end, Lindsay?
I have worked with several people with clicky jaws, although that wasn the main issue for tehir treatments, but they certainly had changes, and one lady, it has gone completely after years of clicking! It isnt always a matter of working o the point of pain/discomfort, as the source or trigger could be in another part of the body - for example, the ankle could be affecting the jaw!

also another factor why I haven`t done anything about it, is because it`s sooooo darn expensive![&:]

Hi Lindsay,
would you mind me asking what you call very expensive?
also, please try not to use the word cure - we therapists arent allowed to cure......................
Good luck,

£30.00 an hour, but if you have 3 or 4 of them that`s £120.00....

The good thing about Bowen is that as it is your body that isrealigning and healing itself, it is likely that if you get a 'good response' to it, it will last a long time, so in the long run the amount of money you are paying out may not be as much as if you are receiving regular treatments that make you feel good for a while but you need to go back for more. That was a long sentence, sorry.
But as in all these situations, different therapies 'feel' right for different people. Always balance the question of money against how much you value your health and how much your clicky jaw is interferring with your life.
Please let us know if your other therapy choice is working for you - what is it?

hello - just re-read the bit I wrote about valuing (spelling?) your health - didn't mean it to sound quite as icky as that. Sorry.

Hi there
Have you asked your dentist for an opinion as to why your jaw is clicking?
If you re clenching your jaw muscles or grinding your teeth at night, you are constantly re-injuring yourself (in Bowen terms) and this might be why the Bowen work is not having a great effect. It's like twisting your ankle everyday between weekly ankle treatments - Bowen - however fantastic a modality is not going to help to re-dress this re-injury problem on it's own.
You may find that a soft splint to wear at night might help re-educate your jaw muscles and also release any pressure that you may be putting on your Temporo Mandibular joints through the night.
It's worth considering - although it too will cost money! - for the consutation and for the device and for the expertise of the dentist!
Hope this helps

Hey Lindsay - I have had a client some years back with a clicky jaw and another with lock-jaw. Both clients had about 5 sessions of Bowen a week to 10 days apart and both had great results. I used what we call the TMJ (temperomandibular joint) procedure, both basic and advanced moves, along with a couple of other moves that eventually lead to a good outcome.

As far as payment goes, I normally charge AU$50.00 per session, but for those clients that find that a little difficult if there are several sessions needed, I simply ask what CAN they afford and we come to an agreement and stick with that. I would far rather treat somebody for less money, knowing that I am helping them feel better and improving their quality of life, than turn them away because they can't afford it. Often I find that the very people who need treatment/help are those who can least afford several sessions.

Always discuss your personal situation with your practitioner - you may be surprised to find you can come to an arrangement that suits you both. 🙂
