RE: Guideance on starting up beauty therapy business from hom
Hi there Gillie, if you are setting up a business from home you will need Insurance Cover to at least £2 million, need awareness of health and safety requirements, requirements for disabled, first aid knowledge.
If you run the business from your home in a room that is also used for living in, you will not have to pay business rates.
As for advertising, I think most therapists will agree with me, that word of mouth is best. Leaflet dropping is expensive and time consuming with very little respose for the effort put in. Try putting posters in local shop windows for a start.
Your room needs to be clean, clutter and animal free and smelling nice. Background music is an extra treat. Remember, the more proffesional you are, the more likely you are likely to keep clients.
Also remember, good treatment will spread by word of mouth, but bad will spread even quicker!
Good luck
Love and hugs

Hello there
I am a fully qualified holistic and beuty therapist have been mobile for 4 yrs now and like you will be going home based soon.
Have you been in touch with your local council? they will come out and inspect your home and acess were your treatment room will be
Have you contacted Enviormental Health Authoritity? for Health and Saftey Regulations this depends on what services you are offering
eg,... ear peircing or electrolisis you have to have a special licence for this
I have a Hydrotherapy hot tub in my concervatory which is going to be part of my business so i would have to have the EHA out to me every now and then to check the water.
Then there is your home insurance company you will have to check with them to see if they will cover you?
then there is Liability insurance from FHT or other places like them you have to have this too
there is alot involved becoming home based and alot to consider like.
Opening and closing hours
Treatments
Prices
VAT if not going sole trade
Accountant, if not going sole trade
also your tax may go up depending on the area of the house you will be having your treatment room its very complicated and quite off putting BUT if you have the ethusiam and comitment then go for it.
My head is all over the place at the minute coz this is exactly what I am sorting out right now and i tell you its mentally tiring lol
sorry to go on hope this has helped in some way
pm me if you want or need any other advise:wave:

business name?
Hello everyone:)
I am HND Beauty student and planning to set up my own home based and also mobile BEauty Therapy business. It is also part of my assessment to come up with the Business name! What I am planning to do is to target vary age groups - from young people (girlie girl parties), adults, to offering treatments to our older generation (nurisng homes etc.) I will be doing manicures, pedicures, hand massage, Indian head massage, body massage, facial treatments including dermabrasion, glycolic peels, waxing. The business will be targeting not only ladies but also gents. Anybody can help with the business name? Please?
Hi Lena and welcome to Healthypages,
It can certainly be tricky coming up with a business name, especially as you have to make sure you're not using a name that someone else has already used/trademarked for the same purposes.
You could try things that incorporate your name... so at a first thought something like Beautylena... but a quick google shows several people already using that for similar purposes...
Have a play around with different words that represent what you're doing, perhaps incorporating your name into it somehow, and do quick checks on the internet to ensure it's not already used for either the same business, or worse still... associated with a business you don't want to be close to.
All Love and Reiki Hugs

Hi Everyone,
I am new to the forum and am a business coach. I found this an interesting topic.
Getting clients take time so it's probably a good idea to start your word of mouth campaign asap.
There are other "free" promotional methods like listing your business on directories and local pages and even location based social media sites like Foursquare. Awareness is the first step and with a happy client, words can spread around.
Hope this helps
