Hi guys I really hope you can help. I am fully qualified NVQ2 therapist and am in my final year in college for L3. I am pretty confident when it comes to waxing (albeit very slow) but when it comes to Brazilians or Hollywoods, I just don't have a clue
🙁 they don't show you these in college (well at least not mine) and where I work at the moment, the manager is very unapprochable to ask about such matters and I am only allowed to work the reception desk anyway so asking about treatments is a waste of time as she wouldn't help. What I really want to know is how to start off my client, where to start, how to position them etc - basically everything on how to do the perfect wax! I would be so grateful if somebody could help me as I am so nervous about actually working in a salon and not being able to do which is clearly one of the most popular waxes availiable! Kind regards, Shelley xxx

RE: Brazilian/Hollywood waxing

Hi Shelley, and welcome to Healthy Pages 🙂

My biggest recommendation would be to book yourself onto a specialist Brazilian waxing course - whilst we can certainly help you on the forums by describing techniques, nothing can replace the hands-on experience of learning in a workshop environment.

Yes it's more money, but well worth the investment as having this skill on your CV will make you popular with salon owners (as indeed you alluded to in your original post)! It's also worth bearing in mind that some insurance companies will require you to undergo this additional training before covering you to perform a Brazilian or Hollywood wax.

I know that Capital ([link= http://www.capitalhairandbeauty.co.uk ]www.capitalhairandbeauty.co.uk[/link]) and Hive ([link= http://www.hive-online.com ]www.hive-online.com[/link]) both do Brazilian waxing courses for under £100. For Hive you will need to travel to Tamworth, but Capital run workshops at their various locations around the UK. I'm pretty sure other beauty wholesalers also run similar courses.

If you want to brush up on your skills afterwards, there are some very good DVDs out there that cover the Brazilian and Hollywood techniques. A search on Ebay will bring up lots of affordable options by Gigi or Clean and Easy, for example, or if you're feeling rich andwant to spend a small fortune on what I think is the best DVD out there, look for "The Whole Ball of Wax" by Lori Nestore.

I hope that helps 🙂

Andy

Just a quick follow-up to this - I'm aware that both BABTAC and The Guild of Professional Beauty Therapists require members to have training in Brazilian techniques before they will insure you. FHT do not insure members for Brazilian waxing full-stop, regardless of training.

RE: Brazilian/Hollywood waxing

Hello,
I am in the process of setting up my own beauty salon and I wish to offer the Brazilian and Hollywood bikini wax. However, I am unable to book myself on any course due to not having an available model to take with me. Can you recommend any training centres within Bucks or surrounding areas that provide training classes without the needto provide a model. If not, please could you recommend some insurance companies that will insure me for this type of waxing with an NVQ2 qualification only.
Many thanks.
