Have been invited to body shop party, but think the products are being tested by animals as it was taken over by L'Oreal?

Hi,
This is the latest I can find on animal testing and Body Shop....
We comply with all EU and national laws in ensuring the absolute safety of our products. These are positions we share with The Body Shop whose policy of not using any ingredients that have been tested or retested on animals for cosmetics purposes since the end of 1990 remains unchanged.

I love the word "retested" on animals. In other words Body Shop products could be full of products that have been tested on animals but as it may have been before 1990 it's okay!
I've never trusted the Body Shop. There has always been something morally and ethically dubious about them for me. Too many rumours sometimes sometimes do add up to the truth.

Kind regards,
Christina

I feel exactly the same. Haven't bought anything from them for a lot of years.

Hi all,

I used to work as a Body Shop @ Home consultant, firstly as it was a company which supported my views (eg. against animal testing, promotion of esteem, community trading, fair traiding etc...) anyway, all was well and everything went well as it was still The Body Shop.

After the death of Anita Roderick (sp) the company was sold to (or brought out by) L'Oreal, which amongst other things, does test its products on animals. Since that, I terminated my agreement with them for that reason.

It's my own opinion and I'm very angry that a company which set itself up with the aim of supplying natural products without testing of animals can sell out and think that the public is not going to notice or react to this. For this reason, I will never buy another Body Shop product again unless it returns to its original core values.

**Rant over** hope that helps!

hi

when i found out about this and decided to look elsewhere. i came across a site ethicalsuperstore.com.

everything they sell is free from animal cruelty from coffee and foods to cosmetics. the best thing is that they give you as much information as possible about the ethics and background of their products according to ethical criteria (e.g. fair trade, organic, eco friendly, etc.), producer or production method, commodity or ingredient and country of origin.

the only downside is that it is not your high street shop and will have to purchase online, but what you do get is that reassurance.

i would be keen on hearing if there are any well known high street shop alternatives
thanks

I used to be a Body Shop at home consultant many years ago before Anita Roddick died. They were never that ethical. The fair trade ingredients were kept at a legal minimum and they are and were chock full of fillers, water, parabens and other nasties. Just have a look on the ingredient lists and google the names of the ingredients

As Annax says the contents of the Body Shop products are horrendous. I was looking for paraben free shampoos a few years ago and thought I'd start there. In all honesty I was shocked at the fact they had parabens in. Naievely (sp) I asumed they would be nasty free! I no longer shop there.
