I recently read some beauty tips using bananas on about.com by Shirley Bragg. There were some bananas in the fridge, so I tried a couple of the tips, a facial mask and hair treatment.
For the mask she suggested using only plain mashed bananas (half of one should do) and let it set for about ½ hour. That’s what I did. I really wasn’t expecting much since my skin is in good condition, but it did leave my skin soft.
For damaged, dry hair the author suggested mixing banana with almond oil and rinsing with soda water 15 minutes later. Then shampoo (at least twice) and condition like normal. I didn’t have soda water handy so I left that part out. The results were pretty good. It made my hair noticeably softer and smoother. Wonder if the soda water makes the hair even softer? Anyway I was happy with how my hair turned out, but don’t know if I ever use the trick again. It was very messy and sticky.
RE: bananas for hair and skin
Yep, bananas are just one of the fruits/veggies that are good for you. You can make a mask out of strawberries or put cucumbers on your eyes - did you know you can buy FAKE cucumber and orange slices to put on your eyes. There are loads more but those were just an example 🙂
RE: bananas for hair and skin
I have a book about natural beauty products - do they really work. Is it worth investing in it. I read somewhere that apple was good to exfoliate - is that right
RE: bananas for hair and skin
I would love to try the apple exfoliant. We have several apple trees and it would be nice to try something new with them. Do you remember what the directions were? I could try it out and leave feedback on my results.
