I'm trying to make a very relaxing fragrance using lavender, but some of my family find the smell of lavender a little too much. What is a really nice smelling fragrance that I could mix it with, that would at best be relaxing, at worst, at least not a stimulant, that I could mix it with please?

Is the lavender overpowering due to lack of base oil?

I have a supply, made by an aromatherapist, which contains lavender, sweet marjoram and peppermint - in apricot kernel oil as the base. Very subtle, as the dilution is quite high - but beautiful.

Thanks Jabba, I don't think it's so much overpowering, but just could do with being a better fragrance really. Is the sweet marjoram quite a relaxant for you? I bet it's quite a nice smelling fragrance?

Hi, peppermint is a good suggestion and I find lavender & geranium smell lovely together - it definitely compliments and tones lavender down. Camomile also works well with lavender and is quite a delicate scent. I mix 50ml base oil (almond usually) with 20 drops of lavender and 10 of anything else. Happy blending!

My clients love it - not sure if it's the delicate aroma that does the job, or my massage technique, but they all leave well relaxed!

It's 'bespoke' - made up by a friend who is an aromatherapist. Each batch is different. Find an aromatherapist near you and ask if s/he could come up with a blend specifically for you.
