Hi, Folks,

I'm wondering if anyone has any information about essential oils (or their components)as banned substances when sportspeople have been drugs tested? I seem to remember something along these lines cropping up some years ago, but I think it was eventually dismissed as twaddle. Unfortunately, I've put the details somewhere safe where I can't find them!

Obviously, aromatherapy is frequently used by sports people, but should they declare which oils they have used prior to testing?

A client of mine is concerned about this situation, so I always let him know exactly what oils i have used in case he ever needs to present the information. However, I would like to get to the bottom of the situation...

Many thanks,
Sophie

As most, if not all, essential oils are used in foodstuffs, you probable eat more EOs than absorb them through the skin or inhalation. Therefore please ask your client to also note exactly what s/he has eaten/drank and their own metabolism.
I presume the client can give you a list of what they do test for. Check it out against the chemical profile of the oils you use. I think it is very unlikely that either will be the same..please let me know if you find different.
Many thanks.

There is no researches that conduct that oils go to the blood stream. So, I am sure he will be fine. The main aspect of aromatherapy in its name and it works not via and through penetrating to the blood. A lot of people think it is.... very strange but they like to think so. Marketing needs sell and for public and low educated therapists it works very well.

If he has taken any medications or has conditions then check oils you use. There are some contraindications.

Consumption of essential oils in uk ???? 1. It is illegal to advice client to consume essential oils and 2. Your insurance will not cover you and 3. In uk essential oils cannot be consumed.

But some people like to take oils... I know 1 guy who does. But it his business.
