Hi,
Does anyone know of an 'aromatherapy for animals' course that would give me a qualification to help at rescue homes. I have a full qualification with the international federation of aromatherapists, I rang them but the lady there didn't know. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks

I was given a book about this subject many years ago, but have since either lost or mislaid it:

My daughter, who is an RVN, tells me that use of essential oils with animals has to be done carefully, as there is a high incidence of toxicity with some oils and in particular, cats. As you already have a qualification in Human Aromatherapy, it may just be a case of calculating dilutions needed between the species.

Hi Jabba,
Sorry for the delay in responding to your reply. life seems to fast forward , and before you know it a week has past by. I bought the book you recommended very informative thank you. Yes i was aware that cats shouldn't really have essential oils . I remember my tutor skimming over it saying that the oils are toxic to cats as there liver can't cope unless it was very highly diluted .I did treat my cat once when he got an abscess on his cheek..it healed up very well but I wouldn't suggest it unless you know what you are doing.
I rang up the IFA hoping they might have suggestions on courses for Aromatherapy for Animals, but they said they will put me into contact with a lady that works with animals, main!y horses. Anyway to cut a long story short, this person said you have to treat animal dilutions as you would a small baby , and tune into the animals energies so they can tell you what oils they need, she said there isn't any courses on Animals. So that's as far as I've got with this journey.
The reason for my interest is I want to help (for free) in animal sanctuaries / homes working with dogs mainly. I have two rescue dogs and one on the way from Spain this week and most have skin or emotional problems stemmed from abuse ,neglect or loss.
For now I will read my books and do some case studies and see how it all pans out.

Bright blessings
Julie
