Hi!

Has anyone tried out this Yantra Acupressure mat that's available online. I'm curious if it actually works .... on the website it says to expect a little pain or discomfort when you start using it, but that's putting me off a bit.

Anyone tried it?

Hiya Stardust,

I have seen ads on tv here about it and see it in our local chemist. Its around 40 euro and seems to be plastic raised bits on a foam mat. No doubt they are aligned to the various accupressure points when you lie on it but is that what you do, just lie there?

Maybe other hp members may have more info.

Hi Rachel,

Yeah seems you just lie or sit on it for 20 mins a day. I was considering it cos it claims to guarantee a good night's sleep which I very rarely seem to have!

Hi Star Dust,

The Yantra Mat is covered in spiked flowers and has over 8,000 gentle spikes which connect with the acupoints on your body to help restore the flow of energy through your body. It is similar to acupuncture, except you only need to apply pressure to see the benefits rather than insert needles. It's a bit like a bed of nails because there are spikes, but because your body weight is evenly distributed you won't feel pain - it's more of a tactile sensation like you are being touched. There is also a non-TCM theory which explains that the mild discomfort means your 'painkilling' happy hormones, like oxytocin, are released - these are great for restoring healthy sleep patterns. When you get up off the mat you will see your back is red with increased blood circulation - so great for stiffness / aches or pains.

Hiya, Well I got myself one of the mats as I came across them in a shop saturday .... have tried it out once and dont know if there was any connection but by 9.30 that evening, could barely keep my eyes open.
Will have to try it for the week before I can give my verdict!

Hiya, I quite like it! You have to lie back on it carefully as it is quite spiky and they hurt if you put your hand on them or don't have your weight evenly distributed. Once positioned it is very relaxing. I haven't noticed any major difference to my health yet .... time will tell I suppose and I could use it much more.
Boyfriend used it one day after I suggested it for his back pain and claims that it really helped!
