Hi,

I had acupuncture a while ago and it really seemed to help. I was thinking of doing an acupressure course ( I don't like needles), and was just wondering how hard it is to learn? Can you go straight into it or do you have to know about the body first, physiology and anatomy? I've just got a book on it and it details all the meridian points on the body so wasn't sure. Also how long should it take, i've seen weekend course and year courses. I know the longer you spend on it the better you'd be but if you can learn it in a weekend does that mean you don't need any prior knowledge?

Also, once you've learnt acupressure would it then be easy to learn reflexology. Would you need it if you can do acupressure? What are the differences, apart from one just being done on the feet and the other all over.

Thanks,

Acupressure is relatively easy to learn, especially if you are already massage or reflexology trained.

its like any treatment, you have to practise practise practise.

I use acupressure in a lot of facial and head, neck and shoulder treatments, but not much over the body even though I have had training in it.

Thanks for your reply Guruholistics. I'm looking to change my career and so am not currently trained in any treatments at the moment. I know that I want to do something that helps people and have been interested in holistic therapies for quite some time but have only just got round to thinking I can do something else rather than a 9-5 office job. I'm about to learn Reiki, have just downloaded the introduction to EFT and will be applying to learn NLP.

Whilst I love having massages I'm not sure I'd want to give them on a daily basis hence I was thinking of acuppresure with a view of learning reflexology later but I'm not sure if you have to have A&P first, in which case I'd need to go night school and learn before I even contemplate either of these therapies.

I guess i'm just considering options at the moment of what would be viable.

Thanks,

Hi C11

There isn't many good quality acupressure courses in the UK.

The best way to learn acupressure in the UK is through the Shiatsu or Tui-Na route. It's not just about the pressure, it's also about Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) principles and diagnosis that underpin the techniques. There also seated acupressure massage courses, but these are generally a basic routine and no proper TCM theory.

Hi,

Thanks for your replies. I've been looking and have found an evening college courses and my local one does a Holistics VCTC diploma which also goes into massage with add on for reflexology. Think I'll try and book myself on the course and progress from there. I've just got a book on acupressure and reflexology so currently reading up on it all.

Thanks again.
