Hi there,
Wonder if you can help me here I am a little confused with a book that contradicts what I was told and learning through lessons. I was told that acupressure should never be performed on a client that is pregnant, especially if more than 3 months...........
But
A book I have the covers all acupressure points ect in the pregnancy section states 'As well as adding the following points, make sure a client is advised to sit or lie with legs raised several times during the day. Points that can be stimulated are Stomach 36 or Liver 3. These points will increase circulation in the legs and relieves tiredness.' This is for aching legs in a pregnant woman.
My question for the lesson is 'which points would you use to treat aching legs in a pregnant woman?' and to be honest i was unsure wether it was trick question and the answer would be that you could not treat the client regarding warnings ect............
The other one that is drivingm enuts is 'what should a therapist warn a patient about before starting a treatment?'
I know 'The symptoms may increase after the first stimulation, but this is an indication that the treatment is working and the body is throwing off the toxins.'
But dont think this is the answer that they are looking for, hope you can help me i am at my wits end today booohoooo 🙁
RE: help 🙁
I don't know that much about acupressure but I do know that stimulating certain points can induce labour!
RE: help 🙁
Yeah cheers Darren , most of the info comes with warnings of that but I am unsure wether to add the points that should be stimulated or answer the question nope it should not be done on a pregnant woman.........
thanks 🙂
RE: help 🙁
Points ususally considered to be avoided in the first three months are points that direct energy downwards. LI4, GB20, Sp6. I use these points "with caution" in early pregnancy, but do not avoid them altogether. If everything is OK, they will not provoke any miscarriage. If it was going to happen anyway... well nature has its own ways.
