St Chad and the Holy Wells Day 2nd March
This day was sacred to St .Chad ,in old English "Cheadda ", pronounced Chad-da ,the patron saint of healing wells and medicinal springs. St Chad would spend hours in meditation and prayer, naked and immersed in water up to his neck.
His symbol was the "Crann Bethadh", the tree of life.
The tradition on this day is to make an offering of flowers and cake to the deity of the well or spring closest to your home. For those who live in the city, place a small table near your front door.Place a money box or container on the table, along with the flowers and cake,
Ask a simple blessing for good luck ,for the coming year. When you enter your home, drop a coin in the money box/container for continued good luck.
